If you're too lazy to make any plans this summer, we might just have the right person to inspire you to get off your ass!
Meet Coreen Copuyoc:
Coreen is a board-certified dermatologist, businesswoman, and blogger, who seems to have found the secret to balancing work and play. She graduated Magna Cum Laude at Ateneo De Manila University under their BS Biology program and was a scholar at St. Luke’s College of Medicine. Travel is a big part of Coreen's life, as evidenced by her wanderlust-fueled Instagram feed.
When she's not busy manning her clinic at Suaviss, Laser 360, or Skin 101, you’ll probably see her catching some waves, getting a tan, or exploring other countries. Even medical professionals need some R&R.
Gorgeous and beaming with a zest for life, Coreen is the type of woman who doesn't wait for the world to arrive at her doorstep. Instead, she grabs it by the balls, learning every step of the way, but never forgetting to have fun while doing so.
Aside from traveling, what are your other interests and hobbies?
I like eating and cooking! Aside from food, art and culture are aspects I also look into when I visit a new place. I've also recently gotten into surfing.
Have you always wanted to become a dermatologist?
I initially wanted to be an architect as a kid, but eventually realized I was meant for medicine. Dermatology was my top specialty of choice and I was lucky enough to be able to achieve that goal.
What’s the best part of your job?
Getting to see and try all the latest technologies for skin care, like skin products and all the fancy new machines. Also, I get satisfaction from clearing someone's face from acne or any skin problem for that matter. It's a good feeling seeing patients finally comfortable in their own skin.
That sounds great! What do you hate about the job?
Nothing super bad! It's hard when I encounter patients with extremely difficult cases like, for example, autoimmune diseases or genetic disorders. It can be frustrating because treatment options are rare.
Any memorable derma-on-the-job stories you'd like to share with our readers?
Well, I really can't share because I don't want to offend anyone, ha ha! But I did get one patient from Cambodia who had around 20 giant warts on each foot, plus about 10-15 on each hand (about 60 warts all in all). I had to do electrosurgery and curettage to remove them and we had to divide the procedure into three separate days to give him time to heal and function properly. Well, at least he's wart-free now!
Any grooming advice for men?
I have a lot. The most basic would be to start a simple regimen of washing the face and applying topical anti-aging products once you hit 30. Also, apply sunscreen with SPF 30 every day! Oh, and see a derma at least once in your life! We don't bite and not all of us charge an arm and a leg!
Since you’re an avid traveller, can you suggest any travel-worthy destinations?
Definitely France. I have so many memories there with my parents and brothers. I studied hair disorders in Paris for a bit in 2015, too. Then there’s also Rome, especially Trastevere, the place is romantic and the food is so delicious! Also Greece and Spain, for the same reasons. You should also visit Japan, especially Furano in Hokkaido, Mt. Fuji, Tokyo, and Kyoto. Everything there is just gorgeous—the food, culture, and the natural surroundings. Everyone needs to see all the cherry blossoms in full bloom at least once in their life! Lastly, Siargao Islands in the Philippines. It's paradise, so simple and yet filled with so much energy. I am hoping it doesn't get too touristy and stays the same.
Any travelling tips this summer?
Always wear sunscreen. There's a global rise in cases of skin cancer, and the Philippines is no exception. Aside from that, sun exposure is the main cause of aging so slap that sunscreen on your skin 30 minutes before heading out, people!
How can a guy catch your attention?
Talk to me about something you are passionate about. Be honest. Don't be fake. And let's eat something good.
What are some of your deal breakers?
Guys who don't know what they want or what they're about. Also, guys who are 100% self-obsessed.
What’s your ideal date?
Just something chill. We can grab a few slabs of steak and grill it ourselves. Some quiet time by the beach while eating seafood and drinking cocktails sounds like a nice plan as well.
