Summer is here. And if you're anything like us, this means more fun under the sun, more time to do barbeque parties, and definitely more valid reasons to invite girls to the beach. Because BIKINIS, y'all!
But while beach babes in bikinis represent the fun part of the summer spectrum, there's one enemy that's literally looming over the horizon: the sun. Yes, the sun's the reason why the girls are gettin' skimpy, but it could also be the reason why you'll look like this for the next couple of months:
You're laughing now, but you won't be once you actually feel the non-pleasant sensation called sunburn, aka the unwanted, unloved cousin in this yearly tropical reunion.
The good news is, it's 2014, buddy, which means it's now totally cool for guys to pay more attention to skin care. So listen up, and follow our product guide below on how to save your skin from the summer sun!
1) Save some face
We start with the face. If you're still apprehensive about applying cream on your mug (because it makes you feel like a girl), well, how about we slap some scientific sense into you?
Listen up, gents: Under the summer sky, your face will be bombarded by two types of ultraviolet radiation: UVA and UVB. The latter affects the outer layer and is the evil behind sunburns. UVA, on the other hand, penetrates the skin deeper. Under prolonged exposure, these rays will cause wrinkling, leathering, sagging, and in extreme cases, skin cancer.
The skin on your face is more sensitive than those on the other parts of your body (yes, even your balls), so to protect your face, it is recommended to use a face sunscreen with a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of 50 plus. You also need a water-resistant one since you're at the beach.

SPF 50 is non-greasy and offers the highest protection
2) Protect your body like tint on a car window
While your face is the most vulnerable to sagging and wrinkling, your entire body requires sun protection too. Hey, it's also made of skin, isn't it? That thing's going to burn and become prone to skin cancer under extreme exposure.
Without any protection, it takes 20 minutes under the sun before both UVA and UVB rays cause their negative effects on your skin. So let's say you take a sunscreen spray like the one below which has a rating of SPF 30. Essentially, the spray will delay the effects about 30 times longer, which is around 10 hours. Of course, in practical use, your own skin will deplete the sunscreen with sweat so, regardless of its SPF rating, the protection really only lasts around two hours.

SPF 30 is completely clear, and is water-resistant
Pro tip: reapply your sunscreen every two hours. If you go swimming, reapply every 30 minutes. Bet your girlfriend didn't know that!
3) Make it look like you actually went to the beach without having to sacrifice sun protection
The problem with sunscreen protection, especially those with ratings of SPF 50, is that they prevent you from getting dark. There are some of you who's just fine with that. Ayaw mong umitim, eh di wag, diyan ka sa lilim mag-tampisaw.
As for the rest of us, we kind of like it when people notice that we look like we actually went to the beach. We like it when we hear, "Wow, hindi ka kulay letsugas ngayon ah!" or "Naks, kulay surfer!"
Herein lies our dilemma: to sunscreen or not?
And here's an innovative answer: Nivea's Protect & Bronze Spray!
The Protect & Bronze spray protects your skin (with SPF ranging from 10, 20, 30, and 50) while still allowing your skin to tan. How? Nivea says it contains a natural plant extract which stimulates the skin's own melanin production. Its protection and tanning in one.
Now you can look like a surfer without having to endure pain from sunburns.
