If you really want to get to know someone, it wouldn't hurt to snoop in his fridge. The contents of a person's ref say a lot about him, from the lifestyle he lives to his drinking preferences to his ulam from last night or last week...or last month, which automatically makes him a disgusting slob.

There's no right or wrong way to stock a fridge (trust us, there's absolutely nothing wrong with your alcohol-stocked ref), but if we were to take notes from anyone, it would have to be from a chef since we're pretty sure they know their stuff. So we asked five chefs to let us raid their refs, and here's what we found:

What's in your fridge?

Since opening my own restaurant, I don't usually stock up on food at home unlike before. But when I do, it's because of the things I see online. Like the stack of cookies—I saw a video on Facebook [about cookies] and I just had to buy different types of cookies.

Top fridge must-haves:

I stock up on fruits or ingredients in season, like avocados, for example, so I can whip up a quick smoothie in the morning or guacamole for my chips. I also have items in there for work: I usually take home items to do research on their shelf life, so I [have to] monitor them daily.

What should every man have in his fridge?

I think butter, beer, and bacon should be in every man's fridge. I just finished my last can [of beer], that's why it's not in the photo. Beer because you have to reward yourself after a hard day's work. Butter is the best friend of us chefs mainly because it makes lots of food extra tasty. And for the bacon, I don't think it needs any explanation. Haha!

What's in your fridge?

Wine, cheese, fruits, bread, chocolates, fresh vegetables, leftover rice, and quick stir-fry sauces!

Top fridge must-haves:

I make sure I always have these things in my fridge: Alcohol and cheese for some late night relaxation with family or friends, and stir-fry sauces for quick cravings (make sure you save those left over rice!). And yes, chocolates, especially the dark ones, my favorite.

What should every man have in his fridge?

I personally think men should stock on fine wines, good cheese, and chocolates. That's the first thing I ask when I go to a friend's house so I feel they're essential!

JEN TIOCO CHUA
Chef and Co-Founder: Love Desserts

What's in your fridge?

Low-fat milk, almond milk, organic cold brew coffee, Greek yoghurt, apples, salads, dark chocolate, chicken sandwich spread, brown eggs, mozzarella cheese, cream cheese spread, roasted sesame dressing, lemons, whipped cream, pastries, hot sauce, Hershey's chocolate syrup, chocolate spreads, low-calorie beverages, honey, blueberries, and tarragon leaves.

Top fridge must-haves:

Fruits, tarragon leaves for tea, honey to help regulate blood sugar, and sandwich spreads for late-night cravings.

What should every man have in his fridge?

Hershey's chocolate syrup, which can be added to anything and can be a great way to whet your sexual appetites, sweets to boost the libido, whipped cream for when things get naughty, and hot sauce (if you're on a date with someone new, see if she likes spicy food—there's a chance she'll keep it hot in bed!).

What's in your fridge?

I always fill my fridge with milk, nuts, soda, crackers, chips, coffee or any food that will satisfy my cravings and make me happy.

Top fridge must-haves:

As a chef I always see meats, vegetables, and other typical gourmet items in an industrial refrigerator so when I go home I just want to satiate my simple desire to eat simple food and snacks which are very different from what I am creating in my workplace. My personal ref contains my personal comfort foods.

What should every man have in his fridge?

Every guy must store pineapple juice in their fridge because it easily makes anything sweet! Lol.

What's in your fridge?

I only keep a few things in my fridge because I don't cook a lot when I'm away from home (I stay in a condo with a friend during weekdays).

Top fridge must-haves:

In the freezer, I always stock up on steak and bacon. I also have frozen berries which I like adding to my soda, yogurt, or cereals. There's always french fries, too! In the chiller, I always have eggs, butter, and cream for making sauces or breakfast items. I don't store veggies in my chiller, except when I need greens for Korean nights! Occasionally, you'll see a bottle of wine for times when there's a friend in need.

What should every man have in his fridge?

One thing I think every guy should have in his fridge is STEAK! It's so easy to learn how to cook it, and it only takes a few minutes to prepare. It's perfect for nights when you want to reward yourself with a good meal, or when you want to impress anyone who comes over.
