It’s our favorite time of the year—that’s aside from Christmas and the FHM 100 Sexiest Victory Party; okay, it’s our THIRD favorite time of the year! But who’s counting, right? What’s more important is it’s now February. The love month. The okay-lang-magwaldas-para-sa-date month. The only month men are allowed to be ultra-cheesy.

But do you have any idea HOW to be cheesy? Are you and your lady constantly bickering about your lack of romance? Do you attribute your singlehood to your lack of wooing skills? Well, we’re going to solve these all for you! FHM will be dishing out daily how-to-be-a-Don-Romantiko tips the whole month of February!

If there's one fail-proof gift for girls this Valentine's (except for diamonds, of course), it's definitely perfume.

Now here lies the problem: You're totally clueless about the kind of perfume she loves to wear. Unlike most guys who are content on whatever scent they're wearing as long as it effectively make them smell nice, girls are a far more sophisticated bunch when it comes to putting on fragrant things on their sleeves.

So before your mind blows screaming "Eau de effin’ what?", we help you demystify the world of female scents and identify which suits your significant other the best.

LESSON 1: Perfumes are a mixture of scented oils from sources like flowers, water (or eau in French), and alcohol. The difference lies in the amount of perfume oil. Below are their classifications.

Eau de cologne (Say it like this: "oh duh kuh-lohn")

It has the lowest perfume-oil concentration (2-5 percent) and is the most affordable. But you really don't want to give this to your girl. Why? Because eau de colognes are strictly made for guys. It's a masculine scent. Its feminine version, however, is called...

Eau fraîche (Say it like this: "oh fresh")

Oh, fresh! The only downside of this perfume is that it'll only lasts for an hour or two.

Eau de toilette (Say it like this: "oh duh twah-let")

This is where you should choose a scent for your girl. It has around five to eight percent perfume-oil concentration and is perfect for the casual everyday use. A good brand lasts for two to four hours.

Eau de parfum (Say it like this: "oh duh pahr-fuh")

It has around eight to fifteen percent of perfume-oil concentration and lasts for three to five hours. Unlike eau de toilette, eau de parfum will cost you a bit. This is also the kind of perfume that girls love to wear when they want to feel a little special or if they need to attend a special event like weddings or your monthsary. If you're locked on giving her a perfume as this year's Valentine's gift, you might want to look for these babies in the department store.

Parfum (Say it like this: "pahr-fuh")

It has the highest perfume-oil concentration (15-30 percent) and is therefore the most expensive. Experts say that it can last for six to eight hours but based on our experience, most of it will last until she decides to take her next bath! If you're not a stingy brat, then by all means, give her a parfum.

One more reason to buy one: You know you're in for a good night if you notice that she's wearing one.

LESSON 2:
But knowing which kind of perfume you should buy isn't enough to give her the perfect stash. You must also know the perfect fragrance.

Fragrances have families, too: Floral, Oriental, Fresh, and Woody. Check out the Fragrance Wheel formulated by
Michael Edwards, a fragrance expert and the author of Fragrances of the World, which is considered to be the
fragrance industry’s bible.

Hence, our FHM Halimuyak Wheel:

You're now equipped with all the knowledge to buy the perfect scent for your girl. Now go to the nearest ATM, break your li'l piggy bank, or whatever. Good luck, lover bro!
