83rd Academy Awards Nominees for Best Picture: “Black Swan” ... “The Fighter” ... “Inception” ... “The Kids Are All Right” ... “The King's Speech” ... “127 Hours” ... “The Social Network” ... “Toy Story 3” ... “True Grit” ... “Winter's Bone" ...

So, "The Town" did not make the cut ...

For Best Picture - "The King's Speech" won at the Producers' Guild Award ... I'm guessing "The Fighter" might win at the Actors' Guild Award and "Inception" might win the Technical Guilds' Awards ... so, "The Social Network" is not a sure win, afterall ...

For the Acting Categories - Colin Firth ("The King's Speech"); Natalie Portman ("Black Swan"); Christian Bale ("The Fighter") and Melissa Leo ("The Fighter") ... but, Annette Bening ("The Kids Are All Right") is a dark horse for the Oscar for Best Lead Actress ...

THE CONTENDERS: RANKED ACCORDING TO FAVORITISM (NOT NECESSARILY THE BEST) ...
..."Inception" (Watched)
..."The Social Network" (Watched)
..."Black Swan" (Watched)
..."The Fighter" (Watched)
..."The King's Speech" (Watched)
..."Toy Story 3" (Watched)
..."The Town" (Watched)

NOT RANKED ... Haven't watched them yet ...
..."127 Hours"
..."The Kids Are All Right"
..."True Grit"
..."Winter's Bone"

The trend, so far...

...Best Picture is between "The Hurt Locker" vs. "Up In the Air"
...Kathryn Bigelow, "The Hurt Locker" is leading the pack for Best Director
...The Best Actor category is still Too-Close-To-Call
...Meryl Streep, "Julie & Julia" is leading the pack for Best Lead Actress
...Christoph Waltz, "Inglourious Basterds" is leading the pack for Best Supporting Actor (The movie is currently showing at Robinson's Movieworld)
...Mo'Nique, "Precious" is leading the pack for Best Supporting Actor

BEST PICTURE
..."The Curious Case of Benjamin Button"
..."Frost/Nixon"
..."Milk"
..."The Reader"
..."Slumdog Millionaire"  --- WINNER

the all-time Oscar record for the most number of nominations are held by Titanic and All About Eve with 14 noms. Benjamin Button is only a nomination shy of the record. Both Titanic (1997) and All About Eve (1950's) won Best Picture. This year, I hope Slumdog millionaire wins.

BEST DIRECTOR
...David Fincher, "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button"
...Ron Howard, "Frost/Nixon"
...Gus Van Sant, "Milk"
...Stephen Daldry, "The Reader"
...Danny Boyle, "Slumdog Millionaire"--- WINNER

BEST ACTOR
...Richard Jenkins, "The Visitor"
...Frank Langella, "Frost/Nixon"
...Sean Penn, "Milk"--- WINNER

...Brad Pitt, "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button"
...Mickey Rourke, "The Wrestler"

Mickey Rourke was great in The Wrestler but Sean Penn's consistency in his role in MILK I think could win him the most coveted trophy.

BEST ACTRESS
...Anne Hathaway, "Rachel Getting Married"
...Angelina Jolie, "Changeling"
...Melissa Leo, "Frozen River"
...Meryl Streep, "Doubt"
...Kate Winslet, "The Reader"--- WINNER

'cmon... please agree... kate should win this year.

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR
...Josh Brolin, "Milk"
...Robert Downey Jr., "Tropic Thunder"
...Philip Seymour Hoffman, "Doubt"
...Heath Ledger, "The Dark Knight"--- WINNER

...Michael Shannon, "Revolutionary Road"

i am surprised that downey is even nominated and james franco is not. hehe

BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS
...Amy Adams, "Doubt"
...Penelope Cruz, "Vicky Cristina Barcelona"--- WINNER

...Viola Davis, "Doubt"
...Taraji P. Henson, "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button"
...Marisa Tomei, "The Wrestler"

I only saw some part of "Doubt" but I saw that Amy Adams did well. Marisa Tomei hardly did any acting in the wrestler. lol.

BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAY
..."The Curious Case of Benjamin Button"
..."Doubt"
..."Frost/Nixon"
..."The Reader"
..."Slumdog Millionaire"--- WINNER

I'm torn between Button and Slumdog

BEST ANIMATED FILM
..."Bolt"
..."Kung Fu Panda"
..."WALL-E"--- WINNER

kung fu panda was fun.. but wall-e was nice and original too. yay

ART DIRECTION
..."Changeling"
..."The Curious Case of Benjamin Button"--- WINNER

..."The Dark Knight"
..."The Duchess"
..."Revolutionary Road"

dark knight vs. button for me.

CINEMATOGRAPHY
..."Changeling"
..."The Curious Case of Benjamin Button"
..."The Dark Knight"
..."The Reader"
..."Slumdog Millionaire"--- WINNER

my favorite category. i havent watched changeling so... i cant place a bet right now. lol

MUSIC (ORIGINAL SCORE)
..."The Curious Case of Benjamin Button"
..."Defiance"
..."Milk"
..."Slumdog Millionaire"--- WINNER

..."WALL-E"

slumdog was sooo bollywood... so.. if they win, i would say that andrew e's humanap ka ng panget deserves a NOBEL peace prize. but it's fun... so, they should win for the heck of it. :)

MUSIC (ORIGINAL SONG)
..."Down to Earth" -- "WALL-E"
..."Jai Ho" -- "Slumdog Millionaire--- WINNER

"..."O Saya" -- "Slumdog Millionaire"

im rooting for "O Saya" but since they got 2 noms, then this may break the votes. oh well.

Hindi na bale, bawal kasi ang dalawang nomination sa iisang category...kasi, kahit na may mga awards o nominations si Kate Winslet sa mga pre-cursor awards as Supporting Actress...ang totoo eh pareho kasing lead ang role niya sa "Revolutionary Road" and "The Reader"...kaya isa lang ang nomination niya...well, it's Kate Winslet's to lose, unless, ibigay nila kay Meryl Streep, any other name is an upset or surprise win...

Actually, it's Sean Penn vs. Mickey Rourke...

Eto muna opinion ko sa best picture...since, wala pang winners sa mga guild awards...Curious Case is the favorite sa Best Pic and Slumdog Millionaire is the Underdog...nevertheless, hindi pa siya set on stone...dahil pwede mag-bago opinion ko kapag binigay na ng mga guild ang awards nila...

I don't know...kung makakakuha ng mga technical awards ang The Dark Knight...kasi may rule na all academy members votes for the winners in all categories...hindi, siya katulad ng nomination round (actors nominates the actors, film editors nominates the film editors)...ang actors kasi ang may pinakamalaking voting block...eh, mukhang other than heath ledger, there is not much love for TDK from the actors branch...chance lang ng TDK siguro yung sound editing, sound mixing and vfx...pero, I doubt na matatalo ng TDK ang WALL-E sa sound editing and sound mixing...especially, yung umpisa ng WALL-E puro sound effects...

I'm so Excited for this years Oscars...

For Best Actor siguro it would be Brad Pitt or Mickey Rourke...

Best Picture siguro yung "Curious Case if not , siguro yung Slum Dog Millionaire"

Technical awards siguro ang makukuha ng The Dark Knight aside from Heath's performance....

Since, Kate Winslet got only one nomination and not two...this means Penelope Cruz is now the favorite to win the Best Supporting Actress category, while, Kate Winslet is the favorite to win the Lead Actress category...ganda naman niyan kung mananalo sina Penelope Cruz and Kate Winslet, glamourous... :)

Sayang hindi na-nominate si Bruce Springsteen...suprising, 3 lang ang songs na nominated this year... ???
