GOMEZ (SUPERMAN) DEPRESSED.....   :-\ :-\ :( :(

Gomez, 29, lost 17-15 to England's Daryl Peach in an incredible last match in front of a crowd of more than 3,000 people at the Araneta Coliseum in Manila.

The critical point in the match came in the 31st rack when Filipino Gomez failed to sink a crucial 9-ball that would have kept his hopes alive.

He did not get back to the table and was crying minutes later as Peach ran out the 32nd rack to clinch the victory, the trophy and the $100,000 top prize.

"I'm so depressed that I didn't take the crown and I lost the match," said Gomez, who had made history by becoming the first qualifier to play in a World Championship final.

"I was almost there. I couldn't say anything at the end.

"At the beginning of the match I felt uncomfortable. I knew the crowd were with me but it was putting more pressure on me with what they were doing.

"I had slept for about seven hours last night but I did not sleep for two days before that."

Gomez's campaign started a week before the main compe****on as he had to play in the tough qualifying tournaments at the Star Billiards Center in Quezon City.

However, he failed with his first few attempts and only scrapped in after winning the seventh out of ten compe****ons.

But when he was in the main event he was a revelation. Victories over Niels Feijen (Holland) (twice), Dharminder Singh Lilly (India), Alex Lely (Holland), Chao Fong-pang (Chinese Taipei), Kuo Po-cheng (Chinese Taipei) and Karl Boyes (England) took him to the biggest pool match of the year.

However, he showed he was nervous at the start of the encounter as he had left his lucky chalk behind.

"I was looking for my chalk but someone gave me a new one," said Gomez.

"I'm always using the same chalk and that's a little comfort for me.

"I thought it might be lucky charm as I used it from the beginning of the tournament up to now.

"In this compe****on I started playing the qualifying round until this final match so this was my big opportunity. I'm so depressed."
