It follows three young European backpackers off to find an Eden on an island off Thailand where international drifters have settled, living on local goods, fish, and weed. But of course something goes very wrong in such a utopian setting. Trust us; the book’s better than the movie—unless you’re a chick who digs Leonardo di Caprio.

About the author
The Beach is this British writer’s first novel. His second novel, The Tesseract, is about the lives of gangsters residing in Manila—yes, as in Lito Atienza Manila! He has also written the screenplay for the horror film, 28 Days Later .
