The Fountain by Darren Aronofsky
January 2, 2007

Straying from the basic order of things, The Fountain is firstly a full-scale fantasy movie that’s later on translated into an oversized graphic novel. The well-illustrated pages play up a formulaic epic of a man’s millennia-long struggle to reunite with his girl. And because it’s a thousand-year search, matters about death and immortality become an inevitable conflict. Aronofsky presented the story in a three-part anthology where the same protagonist is portrayed in varying time periods: as a conquistador of the past, a present-day doctor in search for panacea, and a deep-space explorer of the far future. The author managed to tweak this print version so that it would not become a mere adaptation of the movie.
