A Scanner Darkly by Philip K. Dick

Dick’s vision of the future is one that is populated by junkies, scam artists and the brain-dead. A Scanner Darkly is a mind- and reality-bending story anchored entirely on drugs. People have surreal conversations, psychedelic spells, chemically induced bad trips and declarations of paranoid logic. Dick seems to be saying that chemical addicts can’t escape the downward spiral, but if they choose to get sucked in, what could be waiting at the bottom is some sort of an ironic redemption. – Charmaine Z.
