This dude is still evil
That’s Calypso. The malevolent genius behind the Twisted Metal tournament. His mandate is still the same: Win the contest and you get a wish. Any wish. Would be winners however are advised to make a wish that’s wicked since he’s known to twist noble wishes in sick, ironic ways.
Three's a company
Many of the series’ colorful cast of psychos has been thrown to the wayside, leaving only three main characters in the fray, each commanding their own gang. Mr. Grimm, that biker dude who can pass as a Kiss member, has The Skulls. Supermodel-turned-madwoman Dollface leads the dolls. And Twisted Metal poster boy Sweet Tooth are joined by The Clowns.
Drive like hell
Now you’re thinking, with just three characters does that mean you only have three cars to wreak havoc with? Well, no. You’ll have access to more than a dozen vehicles, each with their own armor, speed, firepower ratings, and yes, the outrageous special weapons that have been a trademark of Twisted Metal.
We like it this way
Twisted Metal retains its campy, B-movie feel with an over-the-top storyline, an in-your-face soundtrack, and an overdose of dark humor. Even the live-action cut scenes made it through the finish line, true to its roots. The single-player campaign follows the exploits of Mr. Grimm, Dollface, and Sweet Tooth, all of whom will face a different final boss, and reach different endings.
Never a dull moment with this crew
Fast, furious and fiery, this one offers the best action the series has ever seen: huge levels you can flatten with weapons scattered about, a variety of weapons, and the methods of using them create a very dynamic experience. It's very easy to get into, and get into deep, too. Making the gameplay smoother are simple tweaks to the traditional control system that allows your fingers to keep up with all that screen chaos.
Multiplayer madness
Even in the days of the original Playstation, Twisted Metal was best enjoyed with friends. The online multiplayer experience of this one looks to be a testament to that fact. It has several different modes including standard Deathmatch, Hunted, Last Man Standing and Nuke where you try to capture and fling your enemy’s leader at the opponent’s giant totem. In the time it takes for you to accelerate, it isn’t long before you’re lost in all that intensity.
