The week in games: Deadpool, PS3 “Superslim,” and real-life DBZ

No real big games getting our paws sweaty this time of the year. Thankfully, there are a few gaming tidbits thrown our way via the world's ultimate geek convetion, Comic-Con. The annual movie/TV/games/comics extravaganza held in San Diego ran from July 12 to 15, left behind a trail of game announcements and news just enough to distract us from having to force ourselves to finish Diablo 3’s infernal Inferno mode.
Look who just showed up
Deadpool, as seen in Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 and Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, is finally having his own game. The sword-wielding, gun-toting Marvel creation known for breaking the fourth wall (the trailer provides enough evidence of that) will appear in a third-person action shooter for release in 2013.
And he showed up in real life too appearing out of the crowd in Comic-Con to pre-empt Marvel Games’ announcement of his own game so he could do it on his own…with a megaphone, no less. He’s not called the Merc with a mouth for nothing.
Look who’s not showing up anytime soon
Metal Gear Solid main man, Hideo Kojima, likes to surprise people.
A few days ago, an image purportedly from Metal Gear Solid 5 made its rounds across the Internet around the same time Comic-Con was taking place. Suddenly, those not too happy about Metal Gear: Revengeance and its straight-up action style sprung out of hiding and were happy again. For a moment at least.
Kojima, who’s working on another project called Project Ogre, has now dismissed the images as “completely fake.” What a buzz kill, right? Don’t worry though, MGS 5 is a real game, having been announced in June, and to be released when Kojima feels like it.
Resident Evil 6 to feature zombies
But we bet you knew that already. So here’s something new: a fresh trailer showing that Capcom is intent on bringing back the Resident Evil of old. The regal doors, the long hallways, that whole special-forces-trapped-in-the-sewers thing, and zombie mobs pounding at the glass—it’s all very Resident Evil 2. We’re scared already.
It’s the first Resident Evil to feature RE 2 and RE 4 star, Leon Kennedy, and RE 5 hero, Chris Redfield in the same game, as well as being the first to feature nudity according to IGN. We are hoping though that it’s not Leon or Chris gettin’ nekkid! Find out when the game is released on October 2, this year.
This is Dragon Ball Z with motion control!
DBZ for Kinect was first announced in April, where it was revealed that it would feature over 50 characters from the franchise and hundreds of moves that you can execute through real-life gestures. It was just a matter of time wasn't it? True fans of the series, have, at one point or another, tried doing a Kamehame wave. Well, this is the closest we'll get to that.
Check it out in action, as demonstrated by a dude named Brandon, in this Gamespot video.
Slimmer than ever: the PS3
Sony shows their obsession for slim once again as rumors of an upcoming PS3 “Superslim” surface.
Sony is indeed a real master of the art of console-trimming. They did it for the original Playstation, and the PS2. They've done it for the PS3 once, and now they're doing it again. Why? Other than to distract us from asking about the PS4, the new unit should be more energy-efficient.
