Jordan’s single digit game
On March 22 1986, playing away from home against the Cleveland Cavaliers, Jordan failed to reach 10 points for the first time in his career, managing only 8.

In fairness to His Airness though, this was only his 5th game after returning to a serious foot injury that kept him off the court for more than half the season.
What’s really astonishing is that this was the only time that Jordan failed to score in double digits as a Bull. Yep, you read that right. In 13 seasons with the Bulls, his numbers didn’t ever dip below 10, aside from this…aberration.
In his two years with the Wizards, he failed to reach the double-digit mark only 12 times, with his career low being a 2-point stinker against the Los Angeles Lakers in April 2 in 12 minutes of lack-tion.
Game 5 failures versus The Bad Boys of Detroit
One of the hottest rivalries of the late 80s was between Chicago and Detroit.
From 1987 to 1990, the two teams met in the Playoffs, and Detroit kept winning all thanks to the “Jordan Rules,” which was a euphemism for harassing/mangling/gagging Jordan, and forcing his “teammates” to win the games.
In the conference finals of both the 1989 and the 1990 Playoffs, Detroit and Chicago would find themselves tied at 2 games apiece after 4 games played. Game 5, which is a crucial game in any series, wasn’t too kind to MJ. In the 1989 series, he would only score 18 points, and in the 1990 series, only 22 points—both of which are his lowest scoring outputs in the respective series.
In the 1991 Playoffs though, Jordan and the Bulls would find sweet redemption, finally sweep the Detroit Pistons, and finally win 1, 2, 3, championships, and then 3 more after Jordan’s first retirement.
Jordan’s worst Finals performance
In the 1995-1996 season, Jordan and the Bulls happened to finish with a rather excellent 72-10 record, thus making the rest of that year’s Playoffs seem more like a formality.
And that was true until game 4 of the Bulls’ series against the Sonics. Having defeated the Sonics in the first three games, the Bulls were poised for a sweep.
Unfortunately, Jordan forgot that he still had to play, finishing game 4 with a pedestrian stat line of 23 points on 6 of 19 shooting, 4 turnovers, 3 fouls, and paltry assists and rebounds totals. The Bulls would go on to lose the game, and the next game, before rebounding in game 6 with a championship-clinching win.
