Do you miss the old times or do you appreciate the advancement of technology?
It's so advanced now. Contrast ang nangyayari. Hi-tech na ngayon. You go inside the booth there's computer and microphone, tirahan nalang nang tirahan. It's so easy. Yung contrast, I don't know where to put myself sometimes I get into a classic mode then I go back in time pero when you open your eyes, puro computers. Masyado na to. Then you play for example "All I Can Do" by Subway Brown. Before hahanapin mo pa yun sa plaka. Tingnan mo, cut three, i-cu-cue mo pa. Ngayon, tok! Ganun nalang. Naka-program na.
Do you use your personal collection?
Yes, but I don't have to because ang dami sa audience na collectors. May nag-burn nga sakin, si Mon Malanan, he's an engineer pero yung collection niya, yung he burned me the complete VU. As in complete! Meron pang unplugged sina Lou Reed, jamming lang. tapos yung audience mga 20 people lang. live version ng "Pale Blue Eyes." It's so beautiful. The Leonard Cohen, Marianne Faithful-nakakakilabot, no?-Talking Heads. Now, there's a chance for me to play those artists. David Bryne-si Barbara yung naka-interview sa kanya nun. Brian Eno, ang sarap diba? Syempre may mga poste-Sabbath, ang dami. Yung Woodstock, we featured Woodstock non-stop, Bob Marley.
Are you still in touch with the local band scene?
Of course! They're amazing! We've a lot now. There's a new group called Hilera. Tatlo lang sila! The first time I heard them was on radio. Akala ko mga five or six [members, tatlo lang pala! What's [happening] now, nagkakaroon ng revival of sorts. They revive songs by Anakbayan; yung bamboo, they're reviving "Probinsayana." Yung Tatsulok, I like that song. It's so socially aware. And it's still relevant. So yeah, I'm still in touch with them.
