ERWIN: It’s terrible acting, I don’t know what people are thinking when they’re praising it. I mean, wow, probably the worst performance of all cinema in 2008. And also, I’m so fucking tired of Imburnal, mga ganyan. They have to understand, Lino Brocka is dead, so all these younger filmmakers who always try to do these poverty porn films, even if it goes to Cannes, it doesn’t matter to me if you went to fucking Cannes. I mean, for me yung mga Serbis that was one of the worst. That’s poverty pornography, and with no imagination at all. I think those films are a failure of the imagination.
LUIS: I didn’t really see much local cinema.
Erwin: You’re lucky. I had to see most of it. On a positive note, the regional cinema that’s coming out, people who are not from Manila who are making their own films from their own places, Davao, Bacolod, etc. That’s the future of Philippine Cinema right there. We don’t need to see anymore of these Smokey Mountain films. I like Namets and Yanggaw because they presented it in their own way. They’re not catering to us in Manila. Namets actually took the big step of not even screening it in Manila, and having it on regular screening in Bacolod na lang. Mas maganda yung autonomous na lang tayong lahat, kasi you go here you get fucked over, and if you don’t get fucked over once, you’re going to get fucked over fucking twice. I’ve seen indie films, but I haven’t seen that much independence.
