QUARK: But I think the worst one was “Lawlaw” (“Low”) by DJ Batang Sundalo, which has lyrics like, “Ang ganda ng jeans ang laylayan ay bitin, lahat sa kanya nakatingin. Bewang nito, nakalundo. Nakalaw-law-lawlawlawlawlawlaw." I almost forgave him. ALMOST. Then I found out that he called himself DJ Batang Sundalo. At least Miss Ganda only had a skewed sense of confidence, but this guy rips off the other worst song of 2008 and makes it his name. Damn.
LUIS: I think The Dawn came out with probably the worst album in their career. They have this album that is a remake of their old hits—again. What was insane to me is they covered everything in this easy-listening lounge thing. And I’m speaking as a Dawn fan. They meant a lot to me in high school, and now I was listening to them, I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. This is a rock band? For them to release an album like that for I-don’t-even-know-what reason, if there’s an easy-listening wave they’d like to grab, possibly because artists like Sitti are doing well on that easy-listening thing, I don’t know. Regardless of the motivations, it could horrifyingly be their artistic evolution, for all I know. I’m still looking forward to their real follow up.
ERWIN: To what? Their real follow-up to Beyond the Bend. 1989. I haven’t heard an album, and the Dawn has never meant anything to me. But I think you’re allowed to have one tough album naman.
LUIS: You should listen to Miguel Escueta. Actually Miguel Escueta technically came out in 2007, but amazingly they re-issued it.
