Pacquiao / Sports
LUIS: It’s an accomplishment, what Pacquiao did. Whatever inspires hope is always appreciated, acknowledged and welcome. Boxing is a sport that I suppose are not naman designed, pero Filipinos and boxing is a good combination, I mean, genetically, we’re not the tallest of people, the only drawvback or real hazard is brain damage, but then again, you can also expect that from any other sport. There’s also another athlete we should be proud of, and she’s a woman. It’s Ani De Leon, she’s the very first Filipina triathlete to compete internationally in an ironman tournament held in Hawaii.
ERWIN: Of course Pacquiao is still the biggest thing in sports. We’ve achieved more in boxing than we ever did in basketball, the last time we achieved anything in basketball was in sila ano pa yan, San Miguel team in the old days. I did watch the Pacquiao fight, ang boring e. Yung Thrilla in Manila, yun ang totoong laban, talagang to the death, eto wala e. Boring.
QUARK: I wouldn’t think of it as false patriotism. A Filipino doing well in the global arena, like Pacquiao has showed us when he beat one of boxing’s undeniable greats, Dela Hoya – that’s a cause for celebration. It’s always something to admire.
SAM: One word, “galing.” He proved he is the best, made Pinoys all over the world proud, and placed Philippines back on the map. He has the power to put the country on hold, in his fight against Morales, the country was zero-crime rate. Galing.
MARC: Because there was a lot of weird things that happened to us in 2008 and Manny Paquiao winning the title was a good boost of morale for Filipinos.
