Before the book, what were you doing?
For 1995-1999, I ran my own internet consulting firm. At the start, the internet was very young and it was a time when everyone in the industry was still creating and shaping the internet. But at the turn of the century, it became boring for me because I realized that what I liked then about the internet was that it was new. So I sold my company in 1999. I realized it's always the new things, and the new ideas I'm after now.
You do know how hard it is to be novel and different today, right? You think of an idea, but someone on youtube has done it already.
That's very true. It's never been harder to be original. On the other hand, it's never been more valuable to be original than it is today. First of all, people really have to develop their creativity. Second, you have to be aware of what's going on out there, and check if someone has already done whatever your idea is. Thirdly, if you have a good idea, you need to do it now. Transforming your ideas into reality has never been more important.
Who do you look up to when it comes to creativity?
I would have to say, Tom and Jerry. It's always a constant fight to see who can be more creative in smacking the other one up. Ha ha ha!
