Five classic Pinoy horror flicks!

Tiyanak (1988)
“This baby kills, but can anyone kill this baby” goes the movie's tagline. It’s cheesy and forgettable, unlike the often repeated phrase: “
Anak ni Janice.”

This Peque Gallaga-directed classic was released in 1988 and starred Janice de Belen. It’s about a cute, little baby that doubles as a menacing pint-sized aswang when night falls. Actually, the movie’s pretty popular, so if you absolutely do not have any clue what this movie was about, we’re guessing you’re still an underage individual who shouldn’t be going through the sexy galleries of this website. We reckon the local and cable Filipino movie channels will be showing this movie this Halloween, so do catch it, and find out what it takes for babies to qualify as an “Anak ni Janice.”

Halimaw (1986)
Halimaw, just like Shake Rattle and Roll, is two-episode film. Halimaw’s first segment is called “Komiks,” directed by Christopher de Leon and starred his son, Ian de Leon. While that was pretty scary, "Halimaw sa Banga" proved to be the more memorable episode of the two. As the title suggests, it is about a monster that resides inside a really big antique vase. That monster was indeed very scary, which prompted a very famous line from then child star Matet de Leon: “Takot ako e.” She wasn’t the only one scared from that of course. We know of people who still feel an ounce of fear whenever they encounter a “banga” to this very day.

There are no official counts however of the number of “banga” that were intentionally destroyed by those who have seen this scary little flick. Fun activity: make your little ones watch this movie, buy a “banga,” place it in the living room, and watch the hilarity ensue.
