The Grinch (The Grinch Who Stole Christmas)
Created by Dr. Seuss in the 1950s, the Grinch we’re most likely to remember is the one portrayed by Jim Carrey in the 2000 film, How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Like Scrooge, the Grinch hates Christmas, and goes to great lengths just to ruin all that merrymaking. Burning Christmas trees, stealing gifts—that’s just another day in the office for this green monster. And oh, need we remind you that he’s not exactly a sight for sore eyes, as well?
Isn’t it weird: Jim Carrey also portrayed Ebenezer Scrooge in the recently released film, A Christmas Carol.
The Gremlins (Gremlins)
Like devilish little imps, gremlins are pint-sized monsters with a giant appetite for mischief, and general troublemaking. Set during Christmas, the gremlins do not actually have any innate hatred for Christmas, but that’s just because they lack the mental faculties to understand what Christmas is. Had they been more intelligent, we’re betting they’d poop on your Christmas trees just to mock you. Evil, little creatures, these gremlins are.
Sexy time: 80s hottie Phoebe Cates stars as Kate in Gremlins, and its sequel Gremlins 2.
Oogie Boogie (The Nightmare Before Christmas)
In this Tim Burton classic released in the mid-90s, Jack Skellington is the pumpkin king of Halloween. He lives in a town where all the inhabitants are more fit for Halloween than anything resembling Christmas. But that won’t stop Jack Skellington, as he tries to bring Christmas to his world. Oogie Boogie, a fat-looking boogeyman, has other plans though. He kidnaps Santa Claus and plans to have him for dinner, not just to stop Christmas from ever happening again, but because he’s just evil and very, very hungry.
Fun fact: Oogie Boogie appears as a villain in the PS2 game, Kingdom Hearts.
