Depression: "I Just Don't Know What to do with Myself" by The White Stripes

Well, it's the White Stripes version of a Burt Bacharach and Hal David classic. The Stripes turn the song on its head, transforming its bubblegum pop into something more akin to the Stripes' blues-rock sound. Ever present are Jack White's anguished vocals and manic guitar-playing and Meg White's precious, furious drumming.

And then there's its music video. Directed by Sofia Coppola, featuring Kate Moss pole-dancing in nothing but underwear and stilettos. The White Stripes clearly made this song their own.

Acceptance: "Here Comes the Sun" by The Beatles

It's only fitting that this list ends with a song from The Beatles, the biggest music influence of Noel Gallagher. George Harrison wrote this song after he left the band, and he spent his time hanging out with Eric Clapton. He wrote the song on his acoustic guitar, presumably while getting high with the dude who would eventually steal his wife. Harrison returned to The Beatles feeling reinvigorated, bringing back some of the best work of his life.

Whether Gallagher's departure from Oasis is final, or if he ends up making a return, it's wise to heed the quiet Beatle's words: "It's alright!"

Meanwhile, FHM asked music critic Igan D' Bayan for his break up playlist. "'Idiot Wind' by Bob Dylan is saturated with scatological spite at an ex-lover," D'Bayan writes in an e-mail. "No lyricist can top this line: 'I kissed goodbye the howling beast on the borderline which separated you from me.'" In his dishonorable mention: "Careless Whisper" by Wham! "They'll never gonna dance again," D'Bayan says. "You bet."
