Kevin Roy and Karl Roy. In the middle to late 90s, the Brothers Roy ruled the local scene. Karl Roy, with P.O.T., and Kevin, with Razorback.
During moments of difficulties—Older brother Karl's extracurriculars has led him in tangent with death a few times in the past—little brother Kevin was always front and center headlining benefit concerts and lending comic relief. While Karl has since begun Kapatid, and Kevin still has his Razorback.
Lourd de Veyra and Francis de Veyra. For spokenword collective, Lourd de Veyra takes the mic while brother Francis slaps on his bass. Their crowning achievement happened in 2007 when the two were honored as the producers of the year for their work on Sago’s third album Tanginamo Andaming Nagugutom sa Mundo Fashionista Ka Pa Rin. During the ceremony, only Lourd was able to step onto the stage, get the award, and then get a kiss from the girl group, Kitty Girls. Francis was rumored to be eating backstage during the awarding.
Danny and Dyords Javier. What many of you might not know, especially if you were born in the mid-80s, is that Danny Javier of the APO Hiking Society has a brother, whose name is the Filipinized version of ‘George.’ It’s a fact that the APO Hiking Society has been, oh we don’t know, relatively popular in these islands since they started performing in the 70s. So really, there’s no need to harp on Mr. Danny Javier’s achievements.
Dyords Javier is the less heralded of the two. But that doesn’t mean that he hasn’t made an impact in the music industry. He’s part of the quartet, ANGForgettables, but his most seminal work might be “Na-Onseng Delight.” The song which was released in the early 80s was one of the first Pinoy-made songs that can be considered as rap. "I was playing darts with my brother when I got a call to do that song," Dyords says. He left, did a one take, and came hom to finish the game. Dyords won. Or so he says.
Nathan and Nick Azarcon. From Rivermaya to Kapatid to Bamboo, Nathan Azarcon has proven time and time again that his skills with the bass are formidable to say the least. In the events following the departure of Bamboo Manalac from Rivermaya, Nathan even had the chance to play for world music purveyors Pinikpikan in 1998. Really, there’s no question to the man’s talent. This only means that his younger brother Nick sure has a lot to live up to and a lot of catching up to do, but his guitar work in soul/jazz band Sinosikat proves that the music is indeed in the genes of the Azarcons. Pair Nick Azarcon’s groovy guitar playing with some of the sultriest vocals today from Kat Arragado and you’ve got a sure winner of a band!
