T-Mac and his expiring contract will more than likely be shipped off in a trade sometime before the trade deadline in 2010. Trevor Ariza, who was signed as a free agent, has the talent and capability to be a younger and less troublesome version of Ron Artest for the Rockets.
Sophomore guard Aaron Brooks, will be relied upon to provide on-the-court leadership. Both he and Luis Scola will be bearing most of the scoring burden for a team that appears heavily comprised of role players.
MEMPHIS GRIZZLIES
Coach: Lionel Hollins
Projected Starting Five:
PG: Mike Conley
SG: OJ Mayo
SF: Rudy Gay
PF: Zach Randolph
C: Marc Gasol
Key Additions: Allen Iverson, Zach Randolph, Hasheem Thabeet (R), Sam Young (R), Trey Gilder (R), Jerry Stackhouse, Steven Hunter
Key Losses: Darko Milicic, Hakim Warrick, Greg Buckner, Quinton Ross
The Memphis Grizzlies added Zach Randolph to fill in their glaring deficiencies in the power forward position and added Allen Iverson as a one-year rental to simply boost ticket sales. A committed Iverson, with all his basketball savvy and wisdom, can do wonders for a team that boasts of two of the youngest and talented guards in the league, O.J. Mayo and Mike Conley.
