5. Pinoy Big Brother
Nobody knew what to expect when PBB first aired in these parts, but one thing’s for sure: Right after the first season, everyone knew it wouldn’t be the last, in fact, a teen and celebrity edition spin-off turned into instant hits. Think Riza Santos, Gabby dela Merced, Niņa Jose.
6. Meteor Garden
Bringing in a Chinovela was a bold move and it paid off tremendously. The locally dubbed soap opera made the boy group F4 a household name in these parts. No man will ever admit to liking the boys, but all will readily acknowledge liking Shan Chai.
7. WWE RAW
When RAW first aired in 1993, nobody thought that it would later on hold the title as the longest-running weekly entertainment show, without hiatus, in US television history. Its Pinoy fan base even convinced the WWE to hold a road show at the Araneta Coliseum.
8. Friends
Although many of the show’s elements aren’t grounded in real world situations, something about Friends made it connect to audiences. Its light-hearted take on work, family, and of course, friends, is something that its viewers all aspired for in their own lives.
