Even before the race begun, Andrew and Syeon had already thought up of numerous bold strategies. They hail from different cultural backgrounds, Andrew is a born-and-bred Malaysian while Syeon, an Australian is of Korean descent, but that has not stopped that from forming, in their own words, “a level-headed, result-orientated, determined team”.

The couple has known each other for three years, having met while snowboarding in Australia. A close friendship blossomed into a loving relationship and they have been together for eighteen months. On the surface, it seems that their different upbringings may bring them into conflict. Says Syeon, “I’m a very independent, friendly, outgoing person with a Western mentality,” while Andrew confesses that he is not as direct or confrontational as Syeon. However, this relationship is strengthened by the fact that they share many common values and principles, something that they feel will also help them to be in sync during the Race.
