The upgraded Montero Sport Launch!
When a carmaker refreshes a model, it’s usually limited to a minor facelift like new bumpers and headlights with a lone interior tweak thrown in like a new audio head unit as a token gesture. Mitsubishi Philippines, however, went way beyond when it upgraded the Montero Sport by not only giving it a more powerful and more fuel-efficient, variable geometry turbo-equipped engine, it also received power-adjustable leather seats, paddle shifters and a multimedia and information system with built-in GPS and tire pressure monitor to name a few. That the top-of-the-line variant is also more affordable than the model it replaced only made the updated Montero Sport a real dealmaker.
Chevrolet Cruze is named as the Philippines’s Car of the Year
In November 2009, the local distributorship of Chevrolet vehicles was turned over to The Covenant Car Company, Inc. (Chevrolet Philippines). Three months later, it brought in the Cruze, the American carmaker’s entry into the competitive compact sedan segment, making it eligible to join the search for the Car Awards Group’s Inc.’s (CAGI) Car of the Year. It was a close fight with a subcompact model from another American carmaker but in the end, the Cruze won the hearts and minds of the country’s motoring media to declare it the winner. No less than CAGI president and sister publication Top Gear Philippines’ technical director summed up the Cruze’s victory, saying that “it makes a good choice” and that “it really has a lot of things going for it."
Christopher Lao rides his car into a flooded street and becomes a viral video legend
When Christopher Lao rode his Nissan Sentra Exalta into a flooded street somewhere in Quezon City, who knew his single act of wanting to get home to his family in the middle of a storm would lead to him becoming a viral video legend? Many were quick to call him ‘stupid’ for blaming his action and its now widely known consequence on his ‘not being informed’, leading to a bout of depression that lasted for months. As the saying goes, when life gives you lemon, you make lemonades so despite this sour point in his life, Lao took advantage of his ‘notoriety’ and turned it on its head by doing a viral video/advertisement of that fateful day for BPI Family Bank’s auto loan program. Well played, Mr. Lao. Well played indeed.
Lexus Manila brings in the LF-A
Supercars are a rare species in Metro Manila. More often than not, you’ll usually find them in major car show instead of on the streets. So when news that Lexus Manila would bring in one of the 500 LF-As to serve as a ‘halo’ vehicle, many assumed that viewing the car was limited to moneyed individuals. So imagine the surprise on everyone’s faces when it was announced that the LF-A can be viewed by anybody who walks into Lexus Manila’s showroom in Bonifacio Global City as not only would it be on display, it’ll be on display for everyone to not only see but even have their picture taken with it. If you missed visiting it, that’s too bad since Lexus Manila is currently keeping it in a top-secret location.
Lamborghini to open a Manila showroom
If you missed the Lexus LF-A, then you’ve got a better chance of seeing the Lamborghini Aventador as PGA Cars, the distributor of Audi and Porsche in the Philippines, is now bringing in the famed Italian carmaker. Lamborghini Manila’s showroom will be situated right beside the Audi showroom at PGA Center located at the Bonifacio Global City. We’re also quite sure that it’ll be open by January as we’ve heard from our sources within PGA Cars that the very first Aventador is already here. If so, gentlemen, get ready to drool.
