It goes without saying that the Civic is a well-loved beast around these parts. For good reasons: It looks a class above than what its price suggests, and owners can sleep tight at night knowing their beloved Civic will never ever become a taxi.
Perhaps we’ll rely on topgear.com.ph for a more eloquent explanation of this almost unconditional fondness for the Honda baby: “The Civic occupies that special realm where affordability and excitement meet. It's a family sedan that doesn't emasculate the driver into a kind of domestic submission.” Right on, Topgear guys.
So when the new generation of the Civic was launched at the NBC Tent at the Fort last February 16, we couldn’t help but let out a squeal of delight. They pull the cover for a grand reveal, and rainbows gushed out from our mouth. Even for casual car lovers, the unveiling of a new Civic is always big news.
Upon first glance, the changes made from the previous generation may not seem apparent. You’ll need to take a closer look—as we are about to do right now—to see that this one is indeed a fresh, fresh ride. Check out the gallery below.
The 1.8-liter EXI will be the only variant available as of now, with the 2.0-liter variant to follow in a couple months. It carries over the same i-VTEC 4-cylinder engine from the previous generation that produces 141hp along with a five-speed automatic transmission. It will retail for 1.074-million pesos.
