Wise old farts say silent waters run deep. While that is true, we reckon loud ones shouldn’t be regarded as shallow. Witness Paloma here. Good ol’ jolly, friendly Paloma.
She enters the room and owns it. She gives everyone a warm smile and a friendly hello like they were BFFs, never mind that she had just actually met some of the crew members. “Makulit talaga ako,” she smiles.
But as conversations and interview go, there is more to the pretty 26-year-old model. Not that she’d wax poetry or philosophy, no. Paloma just has a lot of stories to be told, lots of experiences beneath that pretty façade. Small talks are peppered with them. And if you’re not quick enough, you might just miss them and regard her as just another pretty face.
Hey Paloma, you’re appearing quite often in FHM. Why do you think you’re such a favorite? Hindi ko naman naisip yun. Favorite ba ko? Ha ha ha! Hindi ko alam. You should tell me.
How different will you be on this shoot? Well, for one I’m skinnier now.
Does that mean you’re more confident now? Kaya nga ako nag-order ng vodka.
Vodka in the midday. Like to drink much? Yes. I like to drink and it takes a lot for me to get drunk.
And when you’re finally drunk, what happens? I can still drive. Ha ha ha! I don’t get myself way too wasted when I know I need to drive. It depends on who I’m with. Kung chill sila, nagiging chill na rin ako. pero kung makulit, kulit din ako. Ngayon, kailangan lang ma-hype up.
This isn’t hyped up enough? Kulang pa. You’re always like this? Excited? Yes.
Do you like getting drunk? Not drunk-drunk. Tipsy lang. Pag basag, hindi na fun yun. I enjoy drinking, I like enjoying my drinks. And I like to dance, and chat with my friends. Mahilig ako sumayaw but normally, mga kasayaw ko, girls. Kasi ang mga lalaki, nahihiya. Hindi ko alam kung bakit. You see, if he’s got balls, he will dance. But if he doesn’t, I’m not one to force. Kung ayaw, fine. Tingnan mo na lang kami, hanggang sa… ha ha ha!
You’re single now? Yes, I’m single.
There is a sudden shift in tone, Paloma. Let’s not talk about it! I want to respect to my husband. Let’s talk about fun. Okay, what is fun? Well fun for me is traveling. Para sa ngayon dagat. Kapag may oras ako, gusto ko pumunta ng beach, with my friends, the usual stuff.
You’ve been modeling for a while now. Do you intend to pursue showbiz? I’ve been asked this before but I haven’t talked with anyone just yet. But then I just realized, I value my privacy so much so pag pinasok ko na ang showbiz, maraming restrictions. But then I have not tried it yet so, hindi ko rin alam.
If somebody gives you an offer, what would make you say yes? Magandang project. Gusto ko matutong umarte. Kung maganda ang project, maganda ang script, kung magiging bihasa ako sa acting. Hindi lang basta artista ka, kumbaga meron ka ring kakayahan para maging isang artist. The question is, marunong ka ba umarte?
What don’t people know about you? I sometimes get lonely kasi tao lang rin naman ako. I don’t show it to other people kasi I don’t want them to get affected. Normally I’m a happy person but I’m just human so…
And when loneliness sets in, how do you handle? Umiiyak din ako no. Pero nilalabas ko yun, ino-all out ko para pag lumabas ako, positive na ako ulit.
How old are you? 26 and having fun!
What else would you like to accomplish? Traveling. I’d like to go to Europe and to exotic beaches like Fiji, Bahamas. Because the places I’ve been to are all city lifestyle. I haven’t been to the beach in other countries.
You’ve been to a lot of places, met a lot of people. How would you say Filipino men compare to foreign men? Filipinos will always be malmabing and hospitable. Madali kasi makisama ang mga Pinoy, diba? Sa mga foreigners naman, marami kang matututunan. They’re hot. Filipinos, too. Saying Filipinos are hot seems to be an afterthought. Hot naman talaga ang mga Filipinos, kaya lang matagal na ako dito so [hindi ko na masyadong napapansin]. Lalo na siguro kung halo, Fil-Am, sobra na siguro yun.
What’s hot? Besides having a good body, it’s confidence. Kung paano dalhin ang sarili mo. Kunwari, oo nga gwapo ka pero hindi mo naman alam pano dalhin, lalamya-lamya ka, hindi rin lalabas sa aura mo yun. Which body part do first look at? The butt. Ha ha ha!
Anything you imagine you’d like to do when looking at the ass? Secret. Ha ha ha!
How would you like to be pursued? Ayoko ng masyadong makulit. Yung text, call, how are you? Have you eaten dinner? Ano ba?! That’s very high school ha! Ilang taon na tayo? Dapat, mature. Act your age. So you don’t like being admired? All girls want to be admired. Pero yung pangungulit, it can get irritating. Gusto ko rin yung may pagka-mysterious. I like to wonder, bakit kaya ganun? Andun yung excitement. So we take it, you like the pursuit as well. Yeah, pag hindi na siya nagpaparamdam, gusto ko rin magtext. Gusto ko rin [magtaka] ‘hmm, hindi na ako kinukulit ano kaya meron dito?’ I like dates. But dates are overstated.
Seesm like you’re enjoying being single again. Ngayon,-ngayon na lang rin. I’m done with the crying—it’s been two months! So right now, I have to enjoy. Or else, nothing will happen to my life. Kailangan pag masaya ka, you gravitate towards people na masaya rin para yung positive energy, pumapasok sayo. Sa ngayon, hindi muna ako mag-re-relationship. So enjoy lang.
Did you regret getting married so young? No. I learned what commitment is. I learned how to be content. Natuto ako makuntento sa kung ano meron ako. Of course you have dreams, but what you have, matuto ko maging content. Then work on your dreams.
Do you miss sex? Minsan, oo. Do you consider yourself a wild child? Before, yes. I’m tamed now.
When was the wildest and why was it the wildest? The wildest was in 2003 when I was single, before I got married. Early 20s. basta wild child, the normal wild child things. Wild sa lahat. But now, tamed na ko compared to that. Even my friends can attest to that. Despite the vodka at 3PM. Buti nga hindi Red Horse ang inorder ko no, ha ha ha!
