“Take off as little as you can, slowly!” are Gwen Garci’s words of wisdom on the art of strip-teasing. And with a boldness CV as extensive as hers, you know you could do worse than listening to her sage advice.
As opposed to her minimalist stance in this feature shoot, however, the ex-Hot Babe is putting on more garb as a serious, wholesome actress—out on her own, carrying her own name, and hopefully reaching out to a wider audience. Fresh from playing the lead role in the film Room 213, Gwen has several projects—movies, TV appearances, guestings, out-of-town shows—lined up. For all we know, this could be her last time to show this much skin. Or she could be bluffing. But you know very well there’s this thing called a Christmas wish…
Last time we saw you was on the January 2006 cover with Jocelyn Oxlade. How have things been since then? Ayun, finally nabigyan ako ng launching movie ng Viva—Room 213, shown months ago. Yun ang last na project ko and I’m thankful kasi nag-two weeks siya ng showing sa movie-house. For those who missed it, can you tell us what the film was about? It’s about a couple who’s been together for 10 years. Di sila magkaanak, hanggang sa nawawala na yung feelings nila sa isa’t-isa. So what they did was they tried role-playing games to save the relationship.
So you’re the wife here. Which roles did you play around with? Threesome, girl-to-girl, girl acting as a prostitute. Guy acting as a transsexual, mga ganun.
Which one was your favorite? Threesome!
And did you contribute your own ideas to spice up the story as well? Yes…a lot! Though I forgot to suggest na sana may swinging na angle, ha ha! What’s next for you? May offers na ng film but I had it go through my manager, Direk Manny Valera. Also Jennifer Lee and I are going into a business venture—we’re selling scented candles. Naisip kasi namin yun ang hilig bilhin ng mga babae. Gusto nila mabango yung bedroom nila.
It’s aimed at women but don’t you think, with you and Jennifer Lee peddling it, men will be making up a huge portion of your market? Eh di maganda, may free kiss sila, ha ha!
How about a Gwen Garci-scent candle that’s especially targeted at male consumers? Ha ha! Ano ba ang scent ko? Anyway we hope by this month, the business will be running. They can order it from us, in person.
What are you most busy most now? I have shows, TV guestings. Pero madalas I’m doing out-of-town shows.
With the Hot Babes dissolved, how does it feel to be on your own? Nakakapanibago. For six years din kasi I was with Viva. Naging friends ko na rin yung mga tao run, mga co-Hot Babes ko, crew, etc. Sa ngayon kasi hindi ko pa kilala yung mga katrabaho ko.
What do you miss most about the Hot Babes? Yung grupo. Yung pag out of town, sama-sama kami. Sobrang saya kasi.
Can you say you’re wilder now that you carry your own name as Gwen Garci and not as a Hot Babe? What do you think? Ha ha! Tingin nga nila ako ang pinak-wild sa Hot Babes eh. Pero para sa akin, meron pang mas wild!

So do you consider getting your clothes back on and going wholesome altogether? Ngayon kasi nangangapa pa ako. But yes, I’d consider going wholesome. It all depends on my manager. But I’m still okay with sexy roles. Anything!
What’s your dream role? I’d like to try action. Something like what Angelina Jolie did as Lara Croft in Tomb Raider.
What’s the most daring outdoor activity you’ve done? I do diving, wakeboarding and the like. You may not know it but I’m really adventurous!
Who are you spending Christmas with?
My family, in Baguio. It’s always best to spend Christmas with your parents. Does that mean there’s no one special to spend it with? Meron but I don’t think I’ll be spending it with him kasi busy siya.
Lastly, what’s the proper way to do a striptease? It should start with your upper body. Mas maganda if you have a scarf, shades, hat or anything so you could take them off first. Basta make it a point to take off as little as you can, slowly!
