Are you saying you were reluctant to be an actress in the first place?
Yes. Well, let’s say that I didn’t like the idea of being an actress. Being an actress kasi, people see you act in the movies or on TV, but that’s it—after they’ve seen my movie once they probably won’t come back to see it again the second time. They will know you today, but just as soon they could forget you tomorrow. Ang singer kasi, kahit patay ka na, puwede pa ring patugtugin ‘yung kanta mo sa radyo. They will still get to hear you.
How exactly did you get to show off your body and the voice that’s going to make you, hopefully, an international star?
I think it was at Dish in Rockwell. I was invited to perform at a product launch, pa-sing-sing and pa-dance-dance. As I went through my number, I saw that the audience—mga successful businessmen sila ha—were very appreciative of my performance. They asked me to sing one more song after another until it almost became a mini-concert for me! That’s when my manager Jessica Rodriguez hit on the idea that I could be packaged as a high-end singer, a classy singer.
