Unlike the image her name conjures—that of a big-haired, copper-toned, probably Rastafarian lady—Jamaica Marlene is a thin, fair-skinned lass who looks too young to know that “joint” may not only pertain to a fast-food chain. But it will take a lot of talking to get to know her—that she’s 26, loves the arts and music (not just reggae), and engages in extreme sports on a weekly grind. And that she, indeed, knows how to roll…

Welcome to jam-rock
My mom told me that when she was pregnant with me, a voice out of nowhere just whispered, “Jamaica.” But she says she likes reggae, too, and how it is in Jamaica. But I haven’t been there.

Stir it up
I do stuff that most girls wouldn’t dare do, like jumping off a cliff. I’m into a lot of boyish sports, actually. I skateboard—I can do a little kick-flip! I surf, too, and now I’m learning kite-surfing. I plan to skydive soon.

We’re jamming
I’m currently studying arts management at DLSU-CSB. Outside school, I’m a freelance model. I started doing photoshoots when I was 16. I personally believe all art aspires to the condition of music, so I love watching bands play live. I like really good guitarists because I envy them.
