What’s the mix responsible for your very sexy accent?
I was born in Singapore. My dad is a Singaporean-Chinese and my mom is a Portuguese-Eurasian. I left Singapore when I was three. I was raised in Australia but I have lived in Europe and in three other continents so the accent has changed.
What exactly do you write about in your “Sexless in the City” newspaper column?
It’s a dating-relationship column that’s based mostly on my personal experiences. Oh gosh, do you know how many men have read about themselves in that column? A guy I had once dated got angry because I wrote about his tendency to leave the lights on in his house. I was against it because it contributed to global warming. My first mistake: I sent a text message supposedly for my friend that said bad stuff about the guy. I sent it to him instead. Then I wrote about his habit in my column and he read that, too. I don’t think he was happy with it so he told me: “You could have left me alone the first time when you texted bad things about me. Now you’re writing a column about me in a national paper. Thank you very much.”
