So when it’s just you, what’s your natural singing style?
I lean towards pop. I like Madonna. But for my upcoming album, there are touches of the ’80s and the ’90s, there’s also a little Japanese pop mixed in. We try not to force our songs to sound like something we’re not. Fortunately we produce our own songs, kami-kami lang, so our songs are really made for us.
How fulfilling was it to make the shift from pop to hip-hop to R&B?
Well, for this album, naka-formulate kami ng hybrid. We don’t want to invent a genre from scratch. We just wanted to do something I was comfortable with. Maraming R&B singers dito sa Pilipinas, but they can’t really do R&B. Filipinos have a distinct voice na more pang-pop.
