We take it you are an avid surfer?
Yes. It makes me forget about everything when I’m out there in the water, like work or even personal things. It’s just the waves and me and it completely clears my mind. I’m also challenged by the sport.
With every wave you ride, things are different. With every surf trip you accomplish many things although I haven’t won any surf competitions. I’m really shy when it comes to surfing in front of other people. But this year I’m really making it my goal [to win a competition].
o why weren’t you allowed to wear any other apparel besides Billabong for this shoot?
I’m sponsored by Aloha Boardsports and they’re the ones who bring in Billabong here. They just asked me [to be an endorser] and we went on a surf trip and it all started from there.
Awesome. So what’s the craziest thing that has happened to you while surfing?
I’ve gotten a few cuts and pretty bad ones. I usually get hurt on smaller waves, which is pretty weird. This one on my forehead [points to a bump on her forehead]—it was so small yesterday, but now it’s bigger because a board went straight at it. Surfing sounds dangerous.
Have you always been a thrill seeker?
Not really. Actually during my first surf trip I almost drowned. Because I didn’t know what surfing was, and it was signal number one during that time. I had to be rescued and I was traumatized for about a year. After that year, I’ve never stopped surfing, [I go] almost every weekend.
When you aren’t surfing what is it that you do?
I’m a licensed interior designer. And I also do yoga.
So are you a yoga instructor?
Well, not yet. But that’s my goal for 2012. To actually go to yoga school and teach.
What is your favorite yoga position?
Downward facing dog because it stretches my legs and my back.
Your body is amazing. How else do you stay fit?
I’ve been a vegetarian for about 10 months. So I completely don’t eat meat and I refuse to eat anything fried. Like I said I’m very passionate about yoga, it really changed my life.
How has it changed your life?
I just feel so much better, being flexible and all, ha ha! Sometimes at work when I’m stressed out, I find myself stretching in front of everyone. They look at me and they’re like,
“What are you doing?” and I’ll say, “What? I’m stretching!”
Are men intimidated by your combo of natural beauty and talent for riding waves?
I never really thought of it that way. I have a boyfriend so I guess not. My boyfriend happens to be a surfer also. We just happened to surf every weekend and that’s how we got close and everything fell into place
