INTERVIEW: Alex Paita

It’s a good thing we got a rock gem like you to pose in outfits we’d never see you wear in gigs!
Well yeah, ha ha! I said yes to the shoot because it fits the sound of the Cherry Cornflakes. It used to be pambata, and now it’s more mature.
Is this your first time to don two-piece swimsuits for a pictorial?
Yes. At first I was really shy! But the staff made me feel comfortable wearing bikinis, so after a while okay na ako.
What were you doing before you held the mic?
I studied management, and then I had a family business, it started as a billiard hall. Right now I don’t have a day job, and the business can stand on its own.
So who inspired you to form a band?
It started when I first saw Cynthia Alexander live. She’s like my mentor and my main inspiration in this business. I also listen to a lot of punk, ska, and reggae like No Doubt. I try to listen to as much music as possible. I don’t constrain myself to writing in one genre lang. I want to experiment on the type of sounds in the band.
Your first album was a bit lighter than usual. Do we expect heavier riffs on your second outing?
Yes, and I can say it’s more mature and has more heart. It’s also more personal. It’s really hard to give ourselves a genre, kasi we’re really experimenting on a sound, but the best description would be pop-rock.
