Phobias. We call have them. Agoraphobia is fear of the open spaces. Ablutophobia is the fear of bathing. Genophobia, meanwhile, is fear of sex. It appears humans fear almost everything-the dark (Achluophobia), chicken (Alektorophobia), the dentist (Odontophobia). The dentist, especially, because as adults, you're supposed to be over and done with having teeth pulled out, blood, terror, numbed pain, and all. When those pearlies suddenly act up-hello root canal!-all cheery greetings find in the dentist's office morph into something of a "Welcome to hell" signage.
Dentists should know: those posters on your walls that try to paint dentists as shiny happy people, they don't work, doc. And neither does classical music. They don't take away the pain, no. What could work are, the anesthesia of course, and a nice-looking, hot dentist to give all that tender, loving, toothy care.
Enter this month's online babe CJ Jaravata. The stunning model, fine actress, and certified FHM babe is a soon-to-be dentist as well! Be prepared as she strikes you like anesthesia with her red-hot photos. You'll be smiling in no time, for sure.
What's behind your nickname CJ? It's Criselda Janice. My mom named me after two celebrities. "Criselda" came from this beauty queen, Cecilia "Dang" Flores Cecilio, because she wanted me to become a beauty queen-but I didn't want to become one-and "Janice," after Janice de Belen because my mom was a fan.
And why don't you want to be a beauty queen? From your looks, you're almost made to be one. I'm more into modeling and acting. For me, beauty pageants, it's like you have to prove yourself and I don't think I have anything to prove. I just want to earn money right away. So, I started modeling right away when I was 14.
Wasn't that a bit too early? Yeah, I was in 2nd year high school then. I was 14 years old and my first modeling stint was not even here in the Philippines. It was in Hong Kong, but I was discovered here. And then it followed through na lang.
So, you're an early bloomer? I was tall! I was 5'7" already and then what's funny was I didn't grow up anymore! Ha ha! I stayed at 5'7"!
Did you have that tall-girl syndrome? For a while, I was really shy. Only because typical Filipinos were not really tall and most of my classmates, during that time were really short. I tend to slouch so I can fit in because otherwise no one would want to be with me right? (Laughs)
How about the boys that tried to hit on you? Nobody really had the chance to court me at that time because my parents were really strict. Like my mother stayed at the guardhouse of my school during my whole elementary and high school life and also because I'm the youngest girl. Super strict talaga, there's no way you can getaway with her. Kaya now, medyo nag- girls-gone-wild ako eh. Ha ha! Because now, she's so lenient.
Okay so, how's CJ today? Busy. Very busy with work and school. I'm juggling so many things at the same time. I'm now taking up my second degree which is Dentistry. My first degree, I got from La Salle, and now I'm taking Dentistry in CEU.
Why Dentistry? I've come from a family of Orthos, my aunt is an Ortho, my uncles, my cousins; most of my relatives are somehow in the science or medical field. Some are nurses, PT's, they're like that. I wanted to become a dentist ever since I stepped into college but I couldn't because I was traveling a lot for work so I couldn't afford the time needed. So, now that I'm based here, I have a little [more] time, so I have the chance to study again.
When you make it as a dentist and open your own clinic, people will be coming in droves to see the hot dentist, for sure. I'm a hot dentist! Ha ha ha! Probably, it will work both ways. Well, being a good dentist runs in our family. So, it pays to have a good-looking doctor right? (Laughs)
You've been in the industry for quite some time right? Not really, [more] like on and off. I went back 2 years ago, when I started doing Quizon avenue. Then I did Lastikman and after that I did Palos. I was the girlfriend of Bruce there, as a villain, as always. I was also a part the indie film "Endo." Right now I'm part of the John Lloyd-Sarah Geronimo movie, and I'll be a regular of the upcoming show, "Parekoy."
This will be the second time that you'll be doing a comedy show. Do you really want to be in the "sexy funny" category? No, it's not. It's a comedy show but my role here is still a villain. I'm still playing the role of the villain. It's like I'm messing with their lives. So I think I'm really packaged as villain and I think I'm pretty good at playing such role, too. I don't know, I have a sweet-face but I don't know why they always make me play those roles. (Laughs) But I love playing that role so it's okay. It doesn't hurt.
And in real life... A villain? No! I'm such a sweetheart. (Laughs) I'm always smiling, I'm super perky. It's nice to play that role once in a while, right? Sometimes it's nice to play the role of someone that's not really who you are. So I guess that it.
You mentioned before that you want to be packaged as "sexy-wholesome." So, how does it work for you? Sexy-wholesome, I can't go on to nudity and stuff like that but like what I said before, showing some skin is definitely okay like in Hollywood films they show off din naman for the sake of the storyline, for the movie right? When you have love for the art, everything follows. But it is a package, if the story is good and everything. I'd like to stay first in the shade of that "sexy-wholesome" area because I'm buying to become an Orthodontist. I want to be respected and I also want to become a versatile actress.
Did you really map out your life to become an actress or it just went along? Yeah. Ever since I was a kid I love acting talaga. I act in front of the mirror. I love to model like that. I remember I have videos with my mom, when we were growing up she'd videotaped us and I'd see yung mga clips with me singing on top of the table, acting in front of the mirror, posing, and taking pictures of myself. So, I think I'm really more on the entertainment side.
If you were to choose your profession, what would it be: the actress or the hot dentist? I think in the future, Dentistry will be my career. But acting is my passion, so it has to stay in my life or else my life is going to be miserable. I think I can juggle both. I think I can make it work together. Plus, being a dentist allows you, your own time, so if I don't want to have clinic for today or go acting tomorrow it's pretty okay. So, I think it'll work.
So, your soon-to-be patients must always be in the know to get a date with you? Yeah. And I'm going to schedule them like crazy!
Okay. When it comes to relationships, how sweet is CJ? Ahh yeah, I'm super-sweet! And not just with boyfriends. I'm sweet to friends, too. That's why I have a lot of guy friends or acquaintances who misinterpret me. Sometimes they think that I'm in love with them and then, they start courting me, and I'll say "no, there's no meaning into it." Then they'll get mad at me. I'm misinterpreted, most of the time. Because I'm sweet in nature.
So what kind of extra does your special guy gets when it comes to your sweetness? I'm playful!
When it comes to what? Everything! Ha ha ha! Like what I've said, I'm really perky. I like to play with so many things. I'm really bubbly.
Can you share some of your playful scenarios? Ha ha! It's not like that. For example, with my boyfriend I just love to make fun of him. Let's say I'm in a serious problem, like in a car accident or a flat tire, everyone may look dead serious but I'll still be joking or cracking jokes like I don't care.
Okay. You're almost having the best of both worlds, any other things you want to try? Stage acting. I don't know how can I squeeze it in my time but I think when I get a more stable ground in dentistry or in my acting career, I plan on breaking the theatre scene. I really want it because I also sing. I'm not much of a singer but I can definitely carry a tune!
So you have a lot of broadway in your ipod? I listen to a lot of acid jazz like Jamiroquai, Incognito. "Still A Friend of Mine" is one of my favorite songs of Incognito. And of course love songs also because most women are hopeless romantics.
