There is something unique about how Rachel carries herself — confident but not overbearing, stunning yet incredibly disarming. And although this London-based 26-year-old part Austrian, part Filipina scorcher has no prior modeling experience, she breezed through the photo shoot with such aplomb that will put even more seasoned models to shame.
Oozing with sexiness from head to foot, just the way Rachel carries a conversation is enough to charm a guy silly. Like the way she says she's a "hip-hop gu-uh" when she means "hip-hop girl" or the way she acts all bashful when we complimented her on how well she could fill a bikini. Then there's the way she can effortlessly shift from a perky urban girl telling us how much she enjoys being in the Philippines to a high-principled, impassioned woman telling us how badly she wants to study forensics and radiology before finally switching to an independent single mom recounting how hard it was to raise her kid by herself.
Now, looking at her pictures may be enough to send make guys all giddy, but the real icing on the cake is the fact that Rachel has a law degree she earned back in London. Make no mistake, people, this beauty has some serious brains, something which is not commonplace in the industry. We don't know about you people, but our stereotypes of people from London — bad teeth, do nothing but eat crumpets and drink tea all day, etc. — have been totally erased and replaced with images of an incredibly hot girl with an orgasmic accent and brains to back all of it up.
We just have to get this out of the way: We just want to say that there's absolutely nothing sexier than a British accent on an Asian girl. Okay! [laughs]
So how did FHM find you? Actually, I found FHM. I see a lot of Friendster profiles with FHM pictures in them and I thought, "Hey, I could do that!" so I contacted you guys.
How did you find the shoot? It was cool! I don't know if you saw earlier, but they were trying to force me to smile 50,000 times. But it was fun! I mean as opposed to this modeling agency I contacted. I went to their office and they sent me for casting straight away for a commercial and that was a bit more difficult. I had to do some role play…
Hold up! Role play?! We'd like to hear about that! You have to say stuff like "Ooh!" ...Sorry, what? [Laughs] You have to say the word "Oooh" and say it in such a way that it sounds as if you're excited; in a way that it sounds as if you're hungry or in a way that it sounds as if you just won the lottery. Like "Ooh!" "Ooohhh!" "OOOOH!" I felt really stupid.
So, moving along, how often do you come home to the Philippines? I try to come home every year. Last year, I felt desperate to come home and I ended up staying here for eight days only. I've been here in the Philippines for two weeks on my current visit, though.
What do you usually do when you're in town? I usually just stay here in Manila really. Sometimes I spend time with my cousins and just enjoy the nightlife. Honestly, I'm really just happy being here! I love being Filipina, I love the food. Every time I wake up in the morning, just knowing that I'm here makes me happy. When I'm driving down the street and just looking at all the people, I feel happy. I really feel happy just being here even if I'm not doing anything.
The way you fill a bikini is just breathtaking. Ever been to any of the beaches here in the Philippines? When I came here when I was twelve, I went to one beach but I've never been to Boracay or Puerto Galera.
So what you're saying is that you're basically an urban girl? The thing that's unique here that we don't get in London in terms of nightlife is the live band scene. I love watching live bands since it's hard to find those in London. In London you just go to a bar or a club.
Which is funny don't you think? Considering there are a lot of great bands coming from the UK lately. Yeah it's a shame. I have a friend who's in a band over there and it's not like here where if you're in a band, you get weekly gigs. In London, you get a gig every month or every two months. So, what sort of music do you listen to? I'm a hip-hop girl! I'm more into underground hip-hop, I'm not really into commercial hip-hop. But I really have an open mind when it comes to music, like when you see my iPod, there's about six to seven genres in there.
What do you do in London? I only work part time at the moment, which is a bit frustrating since I have a law degree. But I realized that I don't think I'd be happy practicing law. I mean it's a good job, it raises eyebrows, it pays good money but it's just not something I can see myself doing.
What do you want to do? I really want to get into Radiography (Radiology), you know, read X-rays, CT scans, MRI scans. I want to do something I really enjoy doing and I've always been interested in Radiography; I've taken scans of myself and I've taken more interest in it than normal people. I just think my passion is in forensics.
Does CSI have anything to do with your interest in forensics? I actually don't watch CSI. When I say I like forensics everyone says CSI. I do watch a lot of true crime programs though.
Do you have any aspirations to become an actress or model professionally here in the Philippines? I'd really love to and if I didn't have a son, I'd probably give it more of a go. But right now, I think I have to stick to the more structured route; go to school, get a job and all that. But really, in an ideal world, I would love to stay in the Philippines and act or model professionally.
You have a son? Are you raising him alone? Yes. It was hard at first and it took a long while for me to accept that. But now that I think of it, I have a job, I am a mom so I'll just have to get on with it.
But you're technically single at the moment right? Are you actively dating right now? There's really not that many eligible Pinoy bachelors in London.
Why go for Filipinos then? I've only gone out with Filipinos.
And you plan to keep it that way? It's kind of my choice. I just share more common interests with Filipinos than with anyone else.
What do you look for in a guy? The thing that always attracts me first to a guy is his sense of humor.
That's good, we have an awesome sense of humor. [laughs] Yeah, and I really don't consider how a guy looks so much.
Well that's good for us, too! [laughs] You know, I've gone out with some really ugly guys before!
How about how much a guy makes or what he does for a living? Well I plan to have a good career and it would be really difficult if I was staying with a guy without a career, someone cleaning the streets or something. That's being practical I guess which is important. But really, I could be with a guy and live off pancit canton for breakfast lunch and dinner, I'm down like that, I don't mind; as long as I find someone who I'm really in love with.
