After her humble beginnings at the TV sitcom Bora, she had since become one of the “suki” girls of FHM — and with every new FHM pictorial, she just gets better and hotter! How was your third FHM shoot? It was fun. Masaya yung shoot, kasi makulit yung staff, magaling yung photographer kaya masaya. Hindi naman awkward kasama yung mga tao. So, talagang nag-enjoy ako.
Were there any layouts that you consider your personal favorite? Parang lahat naman yun favorite ko, kasi iba talaga yung photographer. Iba talaga siya.
From your Bora days, what were the big changes that you experienced? Yung Bora, that was my first regular show. It all started there. Doon nagsimula yung showbiz life ko and after Bora I joined Mossimo, fortunately I won. Then nagkaroon na ng maraming modeling jobs, TV guestings, dumami na talaga yung projects. And as of now, mas professional na ako sa work, nawala na rin yun pagiging camera shy ko and nag-improve na rin yung acting skills ko.
If you were to choose a role, would you prefer a Cinderella patterned “bida” role or a “kontrabida?” Kontabida. In real life kasi, si Joyce ay isang mabait na tao, hindi marunong makipag-away. Tignan mo yung face ko, hindi ba maamo. (Laughs) Tahimik, hindi rin ako masungit talaga. Pero hindi ko naman sinasabi na sobrang bait ko! Gusto ko lang talagang gawin yung exact opposite of the personality that I have in real life. Saka mas challenging gawin yung kontabida na role.
So, how does it feel to be one of the “sukis” of FHM? Masarap yung feeling. Nakaka-flatter talaga sa akin yun. Imagine, I’m sure all of the girls that are into modeling ngayon pangarap nilang makapag-pose sa FHM. So, kung nakapag-pose ka na ng isang beses sobrang nakaka-flatter na yun. Eh ako nakailang beses na ako, diba? Kaya sobrang thank you sa FHM. Saka siguro napansin nila na ginagawa ko yung best ko during the photo shoot. Napansin nila yung buong personality ko na feeling nila worth it pa na kunin si Joyce for another shoot. So flattered ako sobra.
You were also featured in the Lingerie Special, and we all know that you won a bikini contest. If you were to choose among the two what would you prefer wearing in a pictorial? Actually, pareho lang naman. Bikini or lingerie, they’re both two-piece pero iba nga lang yung designs. Pero siyempre kunwari nasa beach ka, alangan naman mag-lingerie ka, hindi naman pwede yun. Siguro yung lingerie kapag nasa house ka, or you’re with someone special.
You mentioned the beach. Are you a beach person? Yes. Siguro in a year mga four times akong nasa beach. Feeling ko, before nga sinasabi ko sa mga friends ko na soulmate ko yung dagat. Kapag nasa beach kasi ako I feel so relaxed. Nakakapag-rest ka, hindi mo na iisipin yung mga worries mo sa life and sobrang addict akong magpa-tan.
Yeah, we kind of noticed it (Laughs) Oo, eh.
Ever tried skinny-dipping? No. Ngayon lang nag-cross sa utak ko nung na-mention mo.
So will you try it maybe in the near future? Kapag may kasama. (Laughs)
And who would it be if ever? Kapag lahat ng friends ko mag-gaganun. (Laughs) So what keeps you busy nowadays? Recent projects, maybe? The last one na ginawa ko yung “May Minamahal” with Oyo Boy and Anne Curtis. So far ngayon mga TV guestings on shows like “Lovespell” or “Your Song.”
Which do you prefer: Modeling or acting? I think pareho. Nag-start naman ako as a model. Kaya kapag kaharap ko na yung camera, kapag nagpho-photo shoot ako, iba yung pakiramdam. Feeling mo supermodel ka. Feeling mo ang ganda-ganda mo, ang sexy-sexy mo. Pero kapag nasa acting ka naman iba na naman yun kasi yun naman yung something na gusto mo pakita sa mga tao na me talent ka aside from posing pretty in front of the camera.
So, when you have free time, what do you do? I spend a lot of time with my friends. I go out for coffee lang, dinner, or movies. Wala yung mga nightlife. Kasi imagine, I don’t smoke and I also don’t drink kaya useless naman na pumunta ng bars.
What turns you on in a man? Yung may sense of humor, clean-looking saka siyempre dapat smart, more on personality talaga. Kasi if a guy is super-cute or super-gwapo tapos walang personality I don’t think na magugustuhan ko din. So, personality lang talaga.
And what would be that key personality to your heart? Yung may sense kausap and dapat loyal kahit alam ko na nowadays wala na masyadong guys na loyal.
No! That’s not true. Ha ha ha! Basta dapat masarap siya kausap. Yung kapag kausap mo siya pwede ninyong pag-usapan lahat. Ayoko kasi nung mga boys na nagmamagaling minsan pero kapag kausap mo na wala palang laman yung utak. Siyempre nakaka-turn-off yun. And that basically would be your biggest turn-off? Biggest turn off ko yung walang sense magsalita. And do you often encounter such guys? Madami. Madaming ganun. Lalo na yung mga guwapo. (Laughs)
So, are you dating someone right now? None. Hindi naman dahil sa wala but the reason is ayaw ko pa. Even dates. Gusto ko friends-friends. Alis tayo, gimik tayo pero yung exclusive dating, hindi muna siguro. Feeling ko mas nag-eenjoy ako ng single life. Especially when nasa modeling ka, nasa showbiz industry ka tapos may boyfriend ka na totally non-showbiz ang hirap. Parang they don’t understand you. Like if you pose for FHM it’s a big deal for them.
So, are you speaking based on experience? Parang ganun na nga! (Laughs) Partly yes, pero hindi lang naman ako yung nagsasabi nun. Lahat din ng friends ko from showbiz kaya nga most of them kapag nagbo-boyfriend sila mostly taga-showbiz na din. Ayun nga lang palaging nagbre-break kasi madaming temptations.
And if you decide to enter another relationship can we expect that he may come from the industry? Siguro that will be the time na nag-quit na ako and all. Wala ng modeling, wala ng showbiz.
I’m sure a lot will be in grief when that happens Matagal pa naman. Hindi pa naman. Saka feeling ko kasi kapag committed na ako magla-lay low na talaga ako sa ganitong work.
And can you describe yourself as a girlfriend? As a girlfriend? Sobrang sweet. Gusto ko lagi ko siyang bine-baby. Loyal ako sobra. Kaya kong gawin lahat para sa guy pero siyempre dapat love din niya ako. Parang balance lang. Depende din dun sa magiging boyfriend ko kung papaano ko ia-adjust yung relationship ko with a guy.
Any future plans? Future plans? Wala. (Laughs) Nag-eenjoy pa talaga ko sa showbiz ngayon. Siguro mag-travel kasi life is too short. Imagine 20-plus na ako tapos kapag committed na ako I don’t think na magagawa ko pa yung mag-isa. So, gusto ko munang i-enjoy yung life ko para kapag dumating na yung time na magkaroon na ako ng stable na boyfriend or mag-asawa man ako at least na-enjoy ko yung life ko nung single pa ako.
