Hazel Ann Mendoza was born in Spain. She moved in to the Philippines at the age of five. At 10, she was already in showbiz. She was part of the cast of Ang TV. "I was discovered because Nadia Montenegro is my half-sister. She encouraged me to try out for the show. Medyo nahirapan nga lang ako kasi hindi pa ako marunong mag-Tagalog. I was born in Spain and I had just moved to the Philippines, so I only knew little Filipino and English. So, during the show, nasa background lang ako, hindi masyadong nagsasalita, ha ha!"
