Kinatay has drawn criticism, to the point of being called the worst film ever shown in Cannes. It has also faced censopship troubles in the Philippines. After the win, however, the film will be shown in its full unchopped version. This is Mendoza's second entry to Cannes. He debuted last year with Serbis.

Mendoza will also talk about the state of Philippine film, how challenging it is to be an independent filmmaker in our country, and being a father to his adopted 13-year-old daughter Angelica.
