Do they serve extra-special beer in Oktoberfest?
Yes, they serve extra special beer here. And by extra special, we mean that they have traditional guidelines of the kind of beer that can be served. That beer can be described as an amber-gold lager, with a 5.2 to 6 percent alcohol by volume rating that is bottom-fermented and lagered for at least a month.

The beer served today is brewed almost the same way as the beer that was served at the wedding of Crown Prince Ludwig’s. In terms of taste, the resulting beer has distinctively striking malt flavors and is accented with German noble hops (a kind of flowering plant used to stabilize and flavor the brew) such as Hallertau and Tettnang. On a side note, the German noble hops are actually a relative of cannabis, more famously known as Marijuana.
The beer brewed at Oktoberfest is much older than the event itself. In 1516, Duke William IV decreed that only water, hops and barley can be used to brew and create Bavarian beer.
Where exactly in Munich does this happen?
The festival grounds on which Oktoberfest is held is called Theresienwiese (try saying that 10 times fast), where 14 large tents, also known as beer halls, are set up to accommodate festival goers. In English, Theresienwiese simply means Theresa’s fields.
Spanning 420,000 square meters in size, Theresienwiese's generous wide open fields have been the venue for Oktoberfest ever since the tradition began. That’s right, this was where Crown Prince Ludwig originally invited the 40,000 peasants to drink and celebrate with him. So as you can see, in spite of the fact that Oktoberfest has evolved from a simple beer drinking event to a world-famous gathering that now has Disneyworld-like rides and heaps of traditional German food, the festival remains pretty traditional at heart. From the brewing of the beer to the venue, the event really is rooted in strict, almost ritualistic bindings.
Obviously a lot of people get wasted at Oktoberfest.
From the moment the festival opens with a twelve gun salute and the Mayor of Munich taps the first keg of Oktoberfest beer at 12:00 NN of the first day and cries "O'zapft is!" ("It's tapped!”), lots of beer will obviously be consumed. So given the amount of beer you can drink at the event, along with the celebratory atmosphere, yes there will be problems with drunkenness and the crazy acts relating to it. Those who pass out due to all that beer drinking are called “Bierleichen” by the Germans. “Bierleichen” translates to beer corpses.
