I joined a league, how can I get to own these NBA players?
There are two general methods to build your team: draft and auction.

Draft is really just sports jargon for the term “choose.” You can let the website draft a team for you, but that takes away big chunk of the fun. You can opt to participate in a live draft wherein all, if not most, of the managers launch an application from the website that facilitates the draft process. You simply take turns in choosing which players you want on your team.

These drafts tend to use what is called a “snake” format, where the last drafter to choose a player in the first round gets to be first to pick a player in the second round, and so on. Draft order is normally randomized by the system a few minutes before the live draft begins. There is also an option to set the draft order ahead of time.

Auction, meanwhile, is a game in itself. It is highly recommended that this method be done live or in person. Each team is given a purse of “fantasy dollars” which it can use to bid on players that are nominated to be auctioned off. Highest bidder, of course, wins.

Each team gets a chance to nominate any player to be put up for auction during its turn. The auction selection method is preferred by some people because everyone gets a crack at owning the best players in the NBA; unlike in a draft, wherein only the teams in the top five positions will have a chance to own a top-caliber player, say like LeBron James.

To add more realism into the mix, fantasy team rosters have specific positions that need to be filled. A standard roster would look something like this:

PG – Point Guard
SG – Shooting Guard
G – Either a PG or SG
SF – Small Forward
PF – Power Forward
F – Either SF or PF
C – Center
