The Petronas Twin Towers
Kuala Lumpur’s twin of pride and glory are the tallest buildings in the world at 1,482 feet until Taipei 101 was built in 2004. They remain however as the tallest twin towers in the world.
World Trade Center
Before the infamous terrorist attacks that destroyed the towers in September 11, 2001, the World Trade Center is one of the world’s tallest at 1,360 feet. Though now a distant memory, developers are hoping to make a comeback with the construction of the Freedom Tower, which will stand on WTC’s exact site and is planning to measure at 1,776 feet come 2013.
Where do we stand?
The PBCom Tower, located in Ayala Avenue, stands a merely 850 feet and is our country’s tallest building. A long shot compared to the towers featured above. It ranks however as the 120th tallest building in the world, not bad if you look at it that way. The GMA Tower of Power and GT Tower follow at 777.55 feet and 712.93 feet, respectively.
We certainly need not be bitter with Burj Khalifa’s monstrous height. Whatever we may lack in man made structures, we surely make up with our natural landscapes! So don’t try to jump off our short buildings just yet.
