HATE: Everybody was looking for Noynoy’s girlfriend, Shalani
Shalani Soledad is very easy on the eyes; that much we can say. But then again the First Girlfriend’s absence at such event should not make as big news as the SONA itself. If you must know, Shalani has been busy being councilor of Valenzuela. “Ayaw niya ng ganun. It is not her cup of tea,” says Mon Soledad, uncle of Shalani, as reported by Yahoo! Southeast Asia.
LOVE: For the first time in a long time, no presidential effigy is burned
Unlike his predecessors, Noynoy’s 14x15 feet effigy remained unburned for this year’s SONA. “It’s too early to ‘burn’ him," said visual artist Max Santiago of Ugat Lahi, which has been making effigies of the country’s top leaders in the last 12 years, reports gmanews.tv. Military groups do not think P-Noy as their adversary yet, which shows trust and confidence on both sides.
HATE: He is speaking in front of the biggest bunch of trapos ever assembled
We love that Noynoy dutifully represents and discusses change, but everyone but the president himself do not indicate it. Behind him, in fact, are Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile and Senate Speaker Feliciano Belmonte, two of the longest-running politicians in the country. But we’re sure they’re doing a fantastic job, which is why they’ve been around this long in the first place.
LOVE: He didn’t sugarcoat the true state of our nation
Most SONAs we have seen in the past always point to positivism and hope, but not P-Noy. Before we were encouraged, we were first laid out the ugly truth. The real state of the MRT and NAPOCOR is somewhat disturbing, but the solution that corresponds with it rightfully picks us up just in the right direction.
HATE: His SONA is only a glimpse, not a full plan, of what he’s about to do
As straightforward as he went, Noynoy failed to point out some of the major problems our country is facing today. Senator Zubiri said he hoped to hear P-Noy’s take on health care and minimum wage problem, while Senator Legarda admitted she was expecting the president to tackle hunger, water shortage, climate change, and unemployment, gmanews.tv reports.
LOVE: He didn’t talk about his mom and dad one bit
Jokes about SONA online indicate that Noynoy’s speech is “very much like Gloria Arroyo: short but not sweet.” But nobody managed to talk about the other joke regarding his parents. Not one bit did he mention their names, nor any member of his famous family. He proceeded to talk about the country alone, which is about as anti-cheesy as it can get compared to past SONAs.
HATE: “TONGPATS”
“Tongpats”, which basically means “patong” or “kickback” in the corrupt-vocabulary, is Noynoy’s new claim to fame. That is, after the president notoriously indicated government sirens as “Wang-Wang” during his Inauguration speech last month. Ex-PGMA became infamous for her “bangkang papel” SONA bit, and P-Noy could suffer the same fate.
