Adam Savage, Jamie Hyneman, Tory Belleci, Grant Imahara, Kari Byron, Buster and the rest of the hardworking fact-or-fiction crusaders are back putting more myths in the hot seat, as Mythbusters, the enduring, explosive, Emmy-nominated series from Discovery Channel, has returned for Season No. 9.
This season, the myths to be busted take on titanic proportions—literally. James Cameron himself, Titanic’s director, has challenged these hard-nosed truth crusaders to test one of the most requested fan myths the show has ever received: Can the famous floating drift wood at the end of the movie really accommodate only one person? Did Jack really have to die? And what about Rose's nude painting? What the hell ever happened to that? (And yes, we may have made up those last two questions.)
Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul, and series creator Vince Gilligan will also be in tow to assess the scientific theories featured in their shabu-fueled series. Like: Can hydrofluoric acid really burn a hole in your bathroom and make a molten meal out of it? Series fans are sure to remember that heart-stopping scene from the TV show.
Last but not the least, the captains of the epic crab-fishing series Deadliest Catch will be hopping aboard to unravel the myth of the killer loop: Is it true that if you step into a rapidly uncoiling cable on a crab trawler, you could possibly be dragged not just overboard but to the very bottom of the vast ocean?
These, along with other interesting everyday myths such as the “mythical smell of fear,” “to throw like a girl,” and “to know it like the back of our hands,” will be put to the test. You can catch the 15-part season, which premiered last May 17, every Friday at 9 p.m. Encores are on every Monday at 2 p.m., Saturday at 8 a.m., and Sunday at 6 p.m.
FHM recently got to chat with one of the show’s hosts, Jamie Hyneman. (In case you’re confused, he’s the one who wears the black golf hat and has a glorious, turn-of-the-century ‘stache.) Having busted over 800 myths spread over 200 episodes with the rest of the M.B. crew, here he shares some facts about the show, and how it is made.
