It’s that time of the year again where we—the loving sons that we are—show our appreciation for our dutiful and devoted dads. We’re obviously talking about Father’s Day, which is coming up this Sunday so be prepared by treating your dad (hey, you just got paid) to his favorite buffet. Or, you can just chill out with him in a drinking session. After all, nothing’s more important for a father than being with family, even if he doesn’t admit it.
As a salute to all the hardworking dads out there, we compiled a list of some of the best anime fathers that remind us of how awesome our own dads are.
Check it out:
1) Goku (Dragon Ball)
Okay, we know that Goku being in this list might be a terrible idea but hear us out first. Yes, he is mostly an absentee father and yes, he never really prioritizes his wife and children over engaging a strong foe in an epic brawl, but this is mostly due to his hot-blooded Saiyan nature.
There have been times when Goku was exceptional as a father, particularly during the Cell saga, where he placed his trust—and the world's fate—in his son's hands.
2) Gohan (Dragon Ball)
Unlike his battle-hungry father, Gohan chose the quiet life of a scholar and dedicated his time to his studies so he could work as a professional to properly provide for his family. But don't be fooled by this seemingly soft Saiyan. Despite not training for years, Gohan can still match the current power level of Goku when it comes to a serious match—it’s just that his family comes first.
3) Vegeta (Dragon Ball)
From bad, bad man to good family man, Vegeta might not seem like it, but the Prince of Saiyans is actually a softy when it comes to his children. The proud warrior-prince tries not to show his caring side, but he actually loves his family and is ready to put his life on the line for them.

4) Yomi (Yuyu Hakusho)
As one of the 'Three Kings' of the demon realm, Yomi's strength and fighting prowess are not to be questioned. He usually displays a cold and calculating personality and has this certain aura of calmness about him. However, Yomi shows his fatherly side whenever dealing with his son Shura, who he teaches a life lesson during their match in the demon world tournament.
5) Sojiro Izumi (Lucky Star)
He might seem like a weak, good-for-nothing louse, but Konata's dad is as cool as it gets when it comes to having a father. Sojiro talks to his daughter about all kinds of things in a casual manner and teaches her real-life lessons along the way. He's supportive of Konata's gaming habits since he's a gamer himself. Despite his cheerful nature, Sojiro's story is actually a sad one as he lives the life of a single dad after Konata's mother passed away shortly after their daughter was born.
6) Minato Namikaze (Naruto)
We don't really know much about Minato aside from him being Naruto's dad and the fourth Hokage of the Hidden Leaf Village. It has previously been a mystery to viewers how one of the strongest shinobi of the ninja world who had the nickname 'Yellow Flash' died but it was later on revealed in a flashback sequence how he sacrificed himself to save his son's life.
7) Whitebeard (One Piece)
The late Yonko, Edward Newgate, was considered the "strongest man alive" in the New World. He conquered the seas with a massive fleet of at least ten ships, not including his other pirate allies that would quickly come to his aid with a single call.
The thing with Whitebeard is he didn't really have a biological son (none confirmed as of now), but he did treat all his crew members as his own and they all reciprocated by calling him "oyaji," which means old man or pops in Japanese. He died fighting in the Battle of Marineford after attempting to save Ace, one of his "sons" who got caught by the World Government.
