Giant monsters and robots are set to shred through theaters tomorrow in director Guillermo del Toro’s epic battle royale movie Pacific Rim. By now, you’ve probably seen the trailer, which features alien-like sea creatures that threaten humanity’s existence. But if you haven't, here it is again:

To defend the planet from destruction, mankind takes a page from the days of Voltes V and employs special weaponry in the form of humongous robots. And because this visual action spectacle tickles our prepubescent geek-boy fantasies, we decided to pit famous movie monsters against famous movie robots in a fight to the death. Let the games begin!

KING KONG VS. OPTIMUS PRIME

IN THE MONSTER CORNER

The original ape from hell. With primitive instincts and a primal urge to kill, this beastly bad boy can scale skyscrapers and has a mean ground and pound attack.

IN THE ROBOTS CORNER

The captain of the Autobots. With intergalactic speed and power, he’s able to evade and destroy even the meanest of Decepticons. Plus, he’s got a killer sword for slashing and can immediately turn into a truck at will.

THE WINNER: We’ve got to give this one to Prime. Not only does he uphold interplanetary justice, but his extraterrestrial intelligence over the mangy ape gives him a definite one-up. With a couple of optic blasts, he’ll make King Kong go bananas, blowing him up in the process.

POINT: ROBOTS

GODZILLA VS. MEGATRON

IN THE MONSTER CORNER

Japan’s nuclear nightmare from hell. The mutated reptilian has a violent reputation of ripping through cities–if only to find some fish to eat. Its been portrayed various times with fire-breathing properties and scalding eyebeams. This isn’t your garden-variety lizard.

IN THE ROBOTS CORNER

The evil overlord of the Decepticons. He can transform into a jet or a rocket launcher…depending on his mood. He has an unparalleled hate for humans and a penchant for annihilation.

THE WINNER: And the win goes to Megatron. We say good luck to Godzilla in his attempt to try to capture this jet-streaming baddie when he decides to fly high, morph into a rocket launcher, and force the reptile into submission.

POINT: ROBOTS

CLOVERFIELD MONSTER VS. VOLTES V

IN THE MONSTER CORNER

The mysterious extraterrestrial that might just be a government experiment. Aside from super strength, this creature has a tiny spawn that can make your head explode into smithereens.

IN THE ROBOTS CORNER

Super Electromagnetic Machine Voltes V. Piloted by the best robot handlers, this mech warrior is capable of a ton of moves worthy of a fatal finish. Its got missiles, a bazooka, beams, and weapons such as the amazing Blazing Sword.

THE WINNER:
Cloverfield’s monstrous antagonist could probably rip Voltes V apart. And if its pesky alien babies get to the Armstrong brothers and company, then all is lost.

POINT: MONSTERS

NEXT: Bumblebee vs. the 50-foot Woman and The Kraken vs. The Iron Giant
