Our playlists in the aughts were some of the angriest and saddest we've ever had. Remember those raging times? When every song from The Used to My Chemical Romance to Dashboard Confessional spoke about the rottenness of our lives. We felt bereft of love. Clothes couldn't get any blacker. And those ubiquitous black eyeliners? How do you even say goodbye to them for good? Of course, our emo craze would never have been more heart-wrenching without our eternally black-clad music idols belting out our miseries till we were all cried out. Where are they now? 5) Adam Lazzara from Taking Back Sunday

Then and now:

Adam is the lead singer of Taking Back Sunday. The band is on their national headlining tour, promoting their new album, Tidal Wave.

6) Bert McCracken from The Used

Then and now:

Bert is the lead singer and songwriter of The Used. The band has been making music since 2001. In fact, the band's seventh album, Live & Acoustic At The Palace, came out in April 2016.

7) Sonny Moore (AKA Skrillex) from From First To Last

Then and now:

From rockstar to EDM god, Skrillex has become one of the most-sought after electronic dance music DJs today. The good news is, he still manages to sing with his emo band, From First to Last, when his schedule permits.

8) Benji and Joel Madden from Good Charlotte

Then and now:

After taking a hiatus last 2011, the boys returned to perform as duo, calling themselves The Madden Brothers. But the act didn’t last long. In 2015, Good Charlotte reunited and released their studio album, Youth Authority.

Gerard was the lead vocalist and co-founder of My Chemical Romance. Amid rumors that the band would reunite last year, Gerard and Co. came out with a statement that said they'd only reissue their third album, The Black Parade, in celebration of its 10th anniversary. Gerard, who's also a critically acclaimed comic book writer, is set to release two of his new songs as a solo artist—plus, a 40-page comic from his featuring art from his DC Comics Young Adult line—on Record Store Day this April 22.
