The Matrix trilogy, which was one of the most successful film franchises during the late ‘90s and early 2000s, is reportedly getting a movie remake.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, which cited a reliable but unnamed source, Warner Bros. is already starting to conceptualize how they will reboot the popular sci-fi franchise.

This was after original Matrix trilogy producer Joel Silver raised the idea of producing new content from the untapped portions of the film similar to what Star Wars did with Rogue One.

However, it seems like the Wachowski siblings who directed the original trilogy won’t be involved. Keanu Reeves, who played the lead role of Neo in the trilogy for his part stated that he was open to acting in another Matrix sequel, but only if the Wachowski’s were directing.

So this means that right now there’s a low chance for us to see Neo back in action with his awesome bullet dodging skills.

It’s all good, since Warner Bros. is also reportedly eyeing actor Michael B. Jordan, who was recently given a starring role in Marvel’s Black Panther , and is rumored to be the possible lead in the Matrix reboot.

The Matrix first hit theaters in 1999, immediately becoming a hit for its unique and futuristic concept at the turn of the century. The film was followed by The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions, which were both released in 2003.
