Google has announced that they are launching a TV service on video-sharing site YouTube, which will rival standard services offered by traditional cable companies, prompting a turning point in the digital age. This may likely change the media landscape as we know it.

In a press release, Google revealed that YouTube TV will initially carry 40 channels to choose from including ABC, ESPN, FOX and Nat Geo Wild to name a few.

YouTube Product Management Director Christian Oestlien explained that this service offers to break the boundaries and limitations on how we watch TV in these modern times.

“Consumers have made it clear that they want live TV without all the hassle. They don’t want to worry about their DVR filling up. They don't want to miss a great game or their favorite show because they’re on the go. They tell us they want TV to be more like YouTube,” he wrote. 

Like Oestlien mentioned, YouTube TV will have a Cloud DVR feature that basically allows users to save their favorite shows. It’s a lot like its TV recording counterpart, only that it gives you unlimited storage options.

Users will also be given six accounts that they can use to access the service in different devices like smartphones, tablets, laptops and yes, even their smart TVs.

YouTube TV will be first launched in the US for $35 a month. Google promises users who are not satisfied with the service can cancel any time, no strings attached.
