UFC President Dana White is done with waiting and has set a deadline for negotiations in the hyped up inter-sport fight between MMA champion Conor McGregor and undefeated boxing champion Floyd Mayweather, Jr.
In an interview, White specifically said that he wanted things on their side to be finalized by Sunday. “I hope to have this thing done this weekend,” he said.
White also revealed that the problem was actually coming from their end. “Actually, it’s not Mayweather’s fault. It’s actually our fault on our side. We haven’t got our stuff together, meaning me and Conor and you know, we blew the date,” he said.
When asked to elaborate, White specifically said it was McGregor’s parental duties that was hindering the UFC side to finalize the contract.
“I’d say the biggest thing is that Conor was having a baby. You know Conor was home, he was having his baby, he was focused on that with his girl and his family… When you’re dealing with that you’re not focused on getting the deal done,” he said.
White added that he will only start negotiations with Mayweather’s camp if things go smoothly with Conor by Sunday. Otherwise, the UFC will have to move on from the inter-sport bout.
The idea of an inter-sport megabout between MMA and boxing’s foremost stars was raised last year when McGregor, who was cashing in with each victory in the octagon, started trash talking Mayweather.
Check out how the casual exchanges escalated into a trash talking spree between the two fighters and is now potentially brewing into a multi-million dollar match.
